Healthy Carbs

What are healthy carbs? Been on a diet of mostly chicken, brown rice and broccolli about 4 times a day and a bowl of cereal w a banana for breakfast. I lost about 12lbs the first 2 weeks but about 6lbs the past 6 weeks. Wonder if I should change up the rice with something else, but don't know what I should use to replace the rice with.

Beans
Whole grains - crackers, bread, rice, pasta. As long as it is whole grains, low sugar, high fiber and you consume in moderation.
Veggies
Fruits
Quinoa
I hope that helps!
Oh, and start your day with protein. It will jump start your metabolism for the day and you will stay fuller longer. And try switching up the rest of your diet too...chicken, rice, and brocolli are all good choices but your body will get used to the sameness and that could be contributing to you being stuck. Also, bananas are a higher sugar (carb) fruit, my nutritionist always tells me apples and berries are preferable to them. Again, hope that all helps.0 -
That diet sounds very restrictive. Are you sure you will be able to maintain eating like that long term?
I've lost 37 pounds since September 16th and I try to eat a variety of fruits, veggies, protein, and whole grains.
That being said, congratulations on your weightloss so far. If you want a direct replacement for rice, try quinoa. If you would like to try some more variety, whole grain pasta and couscous can stand in as well.0 -
I agree. There are TONS of foods you can eat and stay healthy and within counts. I would get bored after about a week. Some people do really well on constant diets like this, but I'd also suggest being sure to change it up to get other types of nutrients that your body needs. Ie, it seems perhaps there is no healthy fat in this diet, like nuts or olive oil as well as other types of fruits and other color veggies.
Re carbs in general. I like carbs and can lose weight and still eat carbs, I just try to go for veggie carbs (I Love homebaked french fried! olive oil and potatoes... still healthy for you!) whole grain and for the less processed carbs in the different types of cereals and breads and pastas etc.0 -
Well, here is what I didnt mention. I'm doing the insanity workout. a very very hard workout, so i do need the carbs. i consume about 1900 cal, 20g fat, 250g carb and 200g protien. I did this workout back in feb and i lost 24lbs in 5 weeks, and i ate whatever i wanted....then i quit. i started again on nov 1st and have been on this diet ever since. i only have 2.5 weeks left, then im going to go on a normal bigger variety diet. i know with the amount of protien i eat, ill stay heavy, but i dont get how with this low fat diet im doing im not thinning out as fast as i did in feb. i feel its because of my choice of carbs.0
