SOUP!

So, I finally found out how to get through the hunger pangs. Soup! I have some Fit & Active soup to get me through this weekend until I go grocery shopping again, but after that I intend to just make a huge pot of veggie soup, portion it out, and freeze/thaw as I go. I started today by logging all the meals and snacks I intend to have so I can see where I'll be at later.

Let me interject here by saying I just decided to make a life change yesterday. Until now, I have eaten only once a day...probably only about a 2000 calorie meal, but I also had about 2 liters of Coke a day as well.

Anyway, around lunchtime I was starving and was looking at my allotment of calories wondering if I could fit in another cereal bar when it hit me...I hadn't had lunch! I had my bowl of soup and smiled so hard my cheeks hurt. I think my body was shocked! That was the best chicken soup I have ever had and I am still full. I can do this with help from my new best friend, soup

I make a big pot of soup every week. Yum!
  • For me I have found oat meal in the little packets. Sometimes the hunger pains were crazy. I also would only eat 1 time a day but would pack the calories in all in one meal. Mt. Dew was my pop of choice. I could down 5 cans a day with no problem. I will have to try some soup next month.

I love soup too! I make up a big pot of it on Sundays. I love throwing in random vegetables and waiting to see what it will taste like. :)

be mindful of the sodium. store bought soup can have a lot of it.

That's my husband. He's going with oatmeal for lunch with some dried berries or fresh apple. I am from an island in Florida and let me tell you, our water is so full of added chemicals to make it drinkable it is rank! I grew up here so my taste buds are repelled at the taste of water. I know, I know, bottled water has no taste but try telling that to my mouth. Needless to say, I will never be able to drink 8 glasses of water a day until I can do something about that. BONUS, soup is mostly water and if I make soup from chicken stock i make myself, I won't have the sodium issue either. I am also looking into making up pitchers of spa water ie cucumber and limes in water or berries in water and let it "ferment" overnight in the fridge.

I make a pot of soup on Sundays for lunches for the week. I make all kinds depending on my mood - usually packed with veggies, sometimes beans, sometimes I will add chicken or something. I like it because with just a little effort on Sunday afternoon, all I have to do during the week is to ladle out some soup into a container, and throw in some snacks (apple, cheese, etc).

Soup is filling, you get tons of veggies, the broth is good liquid, you can change it up so you don't get bored, and studies have shown that it helps you lose weight and with maintenance.

I would suggest that you make your own using low sodium broth - that will help you not bloat and it is just better for you, and it doesn't really take that much time to throw together. But if you do have to buy, be mindful of sodium and additives.

If you have fit&active soup, I guess that you are shopping at Aldi's? Before you start making your own chicken stock or just for those days where you do not have enough time to do so, consider buying the "Simply Nature - Organic, Free Range Chicken Broth, Low Sodium" from Aldi. It only has 5 cal per cup and is (compared to other store bought chicken broth) very low sodium at 140mg per cup. I use it for a lot of things, like soups, sauces, etc

Chicken broth alone is SO fantastic, it's a meal all on it's own and it's rather low calorie. I also like string cheese (50cal) for snacks, or a handfull of cashews (160cal).
  • I love soup too! My mom use to make 10832981 servings (estimated) of soup once a month and let me store some in my freezer
