Exaggerated calories help!!

So I just ran on the treadmill for 50 minutes on full incline. I walked at 3mph and then run every few minutes on 4 mph to 5mph. The calories burned say 600. As known, exercising machines generally exaggerate calories burned so I'm not sure how many calories I actually burned. How many calories should I subtract from the treadmill number? I'm going to invest in an HRM when I have the money.

How far did you go? A very general rule of thumb is that we burn about 70 cal walking a mile and 100 running one0

I'm not sure

Ok...well say you walked 25 min at 3 (1.25 m) and ran 25 at 4.5 (about 2)...I think 300 in 50 min is a fair estimate.
It's for this reason (and others), that I prefer the tdee method of calories so I don't have to worry about how much to eat back

I always add half the calories that machine says. I dont really care how accurate it is. I am definitely counting at least as much as i burned. Besides I rather adjust daily intake based on weight development. The cardio "reward" is just kind of a snack for me really. Mostly because it adds usually between 150-300 kcal, and my daily allowance is 2.6k so it doesnt really add that much.0

I will log only two-thirds of the calories that either MFP (or the machine) says I burned. So take that 600 * .666= 399.6 (400 after rounding). Some say it should be only half. I personally am still losing weight so I'm sticking with 2/3 but do whatever feels most "correct" to you until the HRM is in the budget. Obviously, you'll never be mad on weigh-in day if you underreported your burn and end up losing more than you expected...versus over-reporting and eating back calories you didn't earn and stagnating or seeing very little movement. So I just ran on the treadmill for 50 minutes on full incline. If I actually run (like over 5.0mph) on incline 10% or above, I will burn over 600 calories an hour, so that estimate seems close. Did you put in your age and weight before starting?0

This is a good way to estimate it. I use a bodymedia armband and learned I burn 2/3 to 1/2 of what a machine or MFP gives me. Except for walking. I find I burn a little more when i walk then what MFP gives.0
