Plateau...

Hi there! I'm hitting a plateau and for the last month or so I haven't lost weight. My weight has been in the range of 63-64kg for the last three weeks and I'm scared that I won't be able to lose the weight I want.

Also, in a couple of weeks, my family will visit me and I won't have time to go to the gym because we'll be on short trips every day for one week. So I'm terrified that I'll gain back a lot of the weight I managed to lose and I'm extremely stressed out about their visit. Any advice or suggestions welcome...

Not enough details to comment, when you are in healthy weight range weight alone is not a good indicator of fat. As for avoiding weight gain portion control just east to you activity level. Sure you may gain a couple of kg but if you eat sensibly the "damage" will easily turn around when you get back into your normal routine. 1 week i might a good opportunity to enjoy time with the family. Relax and enjoy yourself is my suggestion.

Hi, what are your stats ? Activity level ? Daily intake ?
I am 5'4. Starting weight : 69kgs, current weight : 57kgs. My weightloss also stalled at 64 kgs ( for one month), then again at 62 kgs (for 2 months). For my part, i was just eating too much.

There is no such thing as a plateau. Most likely you are just eating at a level to maintain your current weight, not lose weight.
  • My stats are: age: 23, height: 165cm (I think that's 5ft4 close to 5ft5), weight: 64kg... I exercise 5-6 times per week, at least 75 min at the gym. I usually eat 1,100-1,300 calories a day... Hope this helps.

    do you weigh your food?
  • No, but I use the portion sizes at the calorie counter, e.g. 1 chicken breast fillet, etc...

then you are probably eating more than you think...

the chicken could be 100g of chicken is 172 (raw) but 200 is obviously 2x that...how do you know exactly how many calories are in the chicken you log...

Agree that a food sale would be a great tool to add to your kitchen - weighing food is far more accurate. Are you also taking measurements and paying attention to how your clothing fits? You may see progress on the tape measure even when the scale is standing still. Snapping a few photos is good too, so you have something else to compare along the way.

Other than that - relax about the family visit. Keep logging food as best you can and stay within goals - missing gym time isn't going to cause you to gain a bunch of weight. But being stressed won't help either, so take a deep breath and try to relax about it. This is life - things will come up that keep us from exercise - illness, family visits, vacation, jury duty, just roll with it, eat well, and pick up the exercise when you're able again. I take a full week off from exercise every 8-12 weeks (I'm on one right now! ) and it's actually one of my favorite things - gives the body a good rest, lets me focus on other things, and I come back refreshed and rested and ready to rock my workouts when the week is up.

    You'll be fine.
  • Thank you all for your comments! I guess I'll need to buy a scale eventually. I feel that what I log is accurate because I mainly buy from Tesco so on the website it has nutritional info about all food...

As for the holidays and the changes in life, I find myself going off track and gaining weight when a change happens, when my routine is disrupted... I wish I knew how to deal with change without stressing over it and without ruining my diet.
