going to a party

Going to a party tomorrow with my family.....kinda dreading it My family isn't the healthiest, or at all. We've always worked food around everything and they will take it as a slap in the face if I don't eat until I'm so miserably full! Why did I ever find that right? So I've already put my two cents on what will be made for lunch. Egg salad and tuna fish sandwiches. This I can work with. Cake is being made. So I've even put that in my calories to save a family fight which would of course be me being the bad guy ( Cause your mother made it just have a piece) So now I need my OWN strength to find what ever else is sitting on the table. There is normally fruit, but high sugar kinds like grapes and cantalope. Fresh Christmas cookies that are my absolute favorite! There will be no exercise tomorrow so I can't even work that into my calories. So pretty much I know what I NEED to do. Just hoping thats what will happen........Sorry, needed to vent a little. Wish me luck!

Just don't worry about it. One day won't hurt anything. Everyone deserves a day off now and then (or weekly!). Grapes and cantaloupe are actually very good for you regardless of how much sugar is in them. It's a natural sugar and it's harder to breakdown than refined white sugar so it doesn't get absorbed as quickly.0

Good luck! I know how you feel. When I told my mom that I am watching my food more closely and would not be eating a ton at her Christmas meal on the 24th, she quickly said "It's just one day." While that is true, there is also "one day" at my in-laws on the 18th, another one day on the 25th, one day on the 21st at my office. It can all add up quickly around the holidays. So my plan is like yours - to try to find as much healthy, nutritious food at each location as I can and then just have a small portion of the "bad" stuff that I want.
If possible, try to focus on the visit with family and friends rather than the food as much as possible. I have confidence that you will make yourself proud with your choices!0 -
Plus, feel free to set to maintenance for the day, so you can go over your cals by like 500 and still not consider it a "loss". Even if you go over more - doing it one day will not make you gain weight. (Note, going over is NOT considered blowing the day - I'm not talking going over like 1000 over maintenance... but really, if you never go over, even one day of that won't hurt!) If you are always really strict with yourself, a day off won't hurt. If you cheat often, and are regularly over your cals, then a day of control in a tough food situation will be good for you. Only you know which is best for you to do tomorrow!
PS regarding the cake - if you are hungry eat it. if not, don't eat it, no matter WHO made it or what they think. I don't restrict myself (overly) at special occasions, and that has actually made it easier to turn down something if I really don't want it.0 -
A couple of small bites of the less healthier foods you want to eat will help fill up your plate, making your family happy and helping you not to feel deprived. I'm sure you've probably heard this already, but I remember Weight Watcher meetings where we were told that just two bites is all you really need to get the taste of anything. This can work so well with foods that pack on the calories. Ultimately, making you happy with your eating choices is what matters most. You're family will get the picture when they see you losing weight and becoming healthier. Your weight loss journey won't begin and end at this party, so take heart!!0

Maybe I'm just pig-headed, but I'm the type who would quite quickly tell my family where they could put their cake: in their mouth if they so choose, but that is NOT going in mine!
I'm doing this for all the right reasons, so that I can be a better person for my family in the future, and have a longer future to look forward to. If they can't respect that, that's THEIR problem, not mine.0 -
You guys are all great! Looks like its not the end of the world to have a "be cautious day" You all had great advice...and kioga86 I've definatly thought about it! But my family really is wonderful, so I would never try to hurt feelings, and thats why its so stressful to go into. It would be like telling your Grandma that you really didn't like that Christmas sweater she knitted you! LOL.
So had a good exercise and food diary today and will follow it up with the same on Friday. Just hoping I can still loose 1lb for my weigh in on Saturday0 -
Ok, back from the shindig...DID have a good time:) Everyone was really supportive (shock, shock) So that was great. I did go over my calories, but I could have done so much more damage! Feeling like it was a success! But tomorrow will be an extra exercising day! Thanks for the support!0
