So, my scales arrived today and I have just weighed my food, but I just don't know how to log it into my diary!!
I know this may sound super silly to everyone, but this is all completely new to me.
If anyone could please help me that would be amazing! :flowerforyou:
Sooooo, here is what i ate:
61g of lettuce
60g cucumber
85g red pepper
50g salmon
43g guacamole
62g hummus
I tried to input this into my diary, "61g of lettuce" but nothing came up so am i supposed to enter it manually with information from the food packaging?

You can do that or you can just search lettuce in the database, find one with similar grams.0

search lettuce then choose 61g
Search salmon then choose 50g etc
ETA: ensure the entry is 100g and put 0.61 servings0 -

I've tried to do that, but for example with the salmon, i only have a choice of 1g or 100g? With the lettuce I only have a choice of 1 cup or 2 cups0 -

I've just seen this after I posted, thanks for that answered my question perfectly0 -

when doing searches try using USDA in them for veggies...never use generic or homemade or asteriks if you don't have to. If you see one that looks right check the confirmations and nutrional value. If you can't find one that is correct on nutrional info click no it's not correct and edit it using USDA website (which can be found by googling calories in___________) there is a link to usda there.
When you do create an entry try to use 100g serving size then it is easier to calculate actual servings..and I always put my initials on it so it shows up in searches and it does go in "your food" tabs.0 -

Thanks for the information, you're a star :flowerforyou:
I'm finding it hard with the hummus and guacamole, so I tried googling "calories in guacamole" however nothing has come up with USDA. I am in the UK, could that be the reason? If so, could I just go off another sites information?0 -
For the hummus and guacamole, I would input the information from the nutrition label on your specific brand - those are usually things that can vary quite a bit.0

If you are making your own guacamole and hummus, you can create a recipe with exactly your ingredients. The most difficult part is then figuring out how much you ate of it.0

If the packaging has a barcode (like a box of cucumbers), try scanning with your phone it to see if it comes up.
But yeah, 61 g of lettuce:
1. Find lettuce that is listed in serving size grams or oz
2. If it says 100 g or 1 g, I would use 100 grams and then .61 servings.
3. If you can only find something with 1 oz/ml/etc, google can convert for you. if you google "61 g to oz" google will say "2.15171 oz."
Note: if it only says "1 cup" or the like, check the packaging. Oftentimes, Nutrition Facts will say "Serving Size 1 cup (28 grams)" or something like that. If you can't find that information because you purchased the product loose, then find another entry on MFP that says g/oz.0 -
it so much easier if you have the mfp app on your phone. you can then scan then barcodes.0

I'm in the UK too so the whole 'cups' thing goes over my head in any case!
What I've been finding is that for raw generic things like fruit and veg, there is often more than one entry anyway, so I just click on a few until I find one where the measurement comes up in 1g and 100g and ignore any that say 'cups' or 'spoons'.
Re supermarkets, you can often even find entries that say eg Tesco - lettuce, Morrisons - tomatoes etc etc, and they are more likely to have the measurements in 1g or 100g.
I have to say I'm impressed by the MFP database and the app. I've only been going for not quite 2 weeks but I have yet to find a supermarket brand that isn't on there, even the "savers" type ranges!0 -

I just bought my first food scale and trying it out for dinner. Im sure I will need this info0
