Half Marathon in September 6th

I am planning on running a half marathon on September 6th.

I currently crossfit 2x per week and strength train 2x per week in the mornings.

I need to bring in running (argh..) its not my favourite thing but I want to challenge myself. It works our about 23 weeks to go. Is this enough time to get going? How should I start?

Thanks

Absolutely you have more then enough time. I just trained for a 1/2 marathon in 12 weeks, granted I've been running 5k, 10k, and 15ks. Do you run regularly or is this your first big race?. You can check out programs online runnersworld has a great one. You can also check out local running stores or gyms to see if they have any training programs.
  • Hello! I also do Cross Fit and have run a 1/2 marathon and recently a 15K. To be honest, I had to cut back on Cross Fit because it was too taxing on my body to also add 3-4 days of running. I went down to 1-2 days cross fit and did 3-4 days of running (2-3 short runs and 1 long run).

I think one advantage you have is that you are most likely already in good shape from Cross Fit so starting the running shouldn't be too hard. September 6th is definitely enough time - it's possible that it might even be TOO much time. I started training 4 months before the 1/2 and got pretty burned out by the end. I would say that you should start running easy right now and then at the 3-4 month mark, start adding in an extra day or longer runs.

I used Hal Higdon's training schedule, which you can find online. There is also the Galloway method of training that you might like if you don't really enjoy running :)

Good luck!! It's a really fun experience!

My first race. Don't currently run. I checked out the Hal higdons and downloaded novice 5k.
