Working out on an empty stomach

I've read a lot of things about the benefits of working out on an empty stomach but also a lot of negatives. Any opinions? I always work out as soon as I wake up. Typically I eat something small before a workout like a kashi bar or a half cup of dry cereal. I have worked out without eating before though, and most of the time it doesn't seem to negatively affect me...

Personal preference. If I am getting up to workout, I'm not getting up earlier to eat first. I've done 20 mile runs with nothing to eat.

It's a total Myth that it speeds up your metabolism. It's what works for you. If I run early morning eating too much upsets me so I normally just have a banana. Later in the day it depends on my meal times. Just do what works for you.

I prefer not to eat before I workout. but then I eat big after a workout.

I prefer to workout on an empty stomach. If I eat first I feel sick and have to stop early

Like someone else said, if I am getting up early to work out, there is no way I am waking up even earlier to eat something and give it time to settle before a workout (considering I need to have myself and kids ready to leave the house before 7am).

I've done 30 day shred and also jogged around 3 miles with only water on a morning and have been fine. Some people just have to eat, some don't.

It doesn't really matter except for personal performance reasons. I can run on an empty stomach but I dare not lift that way.
  • Thanks everyone! I'll just keep doing what I'm doing!
