Crazy how many calories are in Fast Foods..

My personal favorites are Culver's, Steak & Shake, and Chipotle.
I LOVE me some Chipotle. I usually get the sofritas bowl with lettuce, brown rice and veggies. I'll add maybe a little sour cream if I want it, now and then. Under 500 calories and delish.
Fast food is not inherently awful, as long as you do the research ahead of time and avoid the traps (and there's plenty of them). I eat at Panera a lot, too. The tomato and mozz on ciabatta is great.0 -
Or my favorite, the Oatmeal, yummy, it has diced apples, raisins and craisins on it. I get it without brown sugar - 260 calories and very filling.
Is the oatmeal at McD's steel cut oats or the quick-cook kind? I've never ordered it there before, but if it's the steel cut kind, I might. I LOVE steel cut oats. I just don't make them at home usually because it takes FOREVER (though I hear there's a recipe from America's Test Kitchen that significantly shortens the time, I have to try that).0 -
One of the many reasons I gave up fast food years ago!!! So much crap in that stuff, do you really even know what you are eating?
Yes, I know what I'm eating...
That's why I'm able to fit it into my day if I so desire.
this.
taco bell is my go-to fast food.
6-pack of crunchy tacos and tons of fire sauce makes me happy.
just plan and make it fit. not rocket science.0 -
LOL THERE ARE SO MANY CALORIES IN FAST FOOD WHENEVER I EAT IT I JOKE WITH PEOPLE AND SAY "OMG ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE SOME FOOD WITH ALL OF YOUR CALORIES?" HA HA HA HA HA HA GET IT? BECAUSE THERE ARE SOOOOO MANY CALORIES?
Not laughing? Huh. I guess you just had to be there. It's really a funny joke.0 -
I was given a coupon to chick fil a for a free chicken sandwich, and I LOVE Chick fil a. I having been debating if I wanted to go or not because I can't have the sandwich without the waffle fries, then if I get the waffle fries I need the Chick fil a sauce and the barbeque sauce. I just don't know if the calories are worth it.
it's worth it.0 -
It's OK to eat fast food as long as you make the right choices. Look online for the nutritional values of foods at the fast food restaurants you like to visit. If you like a Whopper with cheese, get one. Just leave off the mayonaise and don't eat the bun. If you like Taco Bell, get the soft beef taco supreme. You can enjoy fast food like I do if you educate yourself before choosing. Don't order regular soda's, order diet, unsweet tea or water. If you have enough calories left and you want an ice cream from Dairy Queen, you can have a small cone, or McDonalds cone. It's all about being aware and studying the nutritional values of the foods that are offered. Depriving yourself will lead to a binge.0

I end up at fast food at least once a week since going to Wal-mart is at least a 1 hr drive (2 hr drive is the cops are out :sad: ). Since I'm there I get all of my shopping done for the week. Groceries, yard supplies, ect has to be bought at that time. So I spend several hours in that town. Fast food is the cheapest and fast for me to get down with shopping.
I've learned several survival methods. A big thing is no sauses, all it does is add calories and hides any problems with the food. Also add as much lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickels, ect to the sandwitch to bulk it up. I drive the food places nuts because I special order everything. I will order a sandwich and get rid of half the ingredents. the poor cooks in the back are not all that happy with me.
....or you could just pack a sandwich and pretzels and take it with you. save money and calories. problem solved.0 -
Going on 4 years fast food or fast food hamburgers free...That crap will kill you slowly!0

I'm on day like, 23 or something and I just have totally cut out fast food at this point. The healthier options don't really appeal to me and none of it is worth the calories. I'd rather graze on lower calorie stuff during the day and not feel like I'm starving later. I never have many calories left by dinner so I just stay away. It's worked for over 20 days, and I used to eat fast food several times a week.
It IS amazing how those calories add up. I thought I didn't eat very much and therefore, was not consuming a bunch of calories. That was totally not true at all. I was easily eating 2500 calories a day.
Now I eat tasty, low calorie stuff at home and I'm good! I don't crave fast food. Thankfully. I hope it never appeals to me again because it's ALWAYS been a problem area for me.
I might break eventually, but I feel better without that junk at this point. And I know I'm not consuming more calories than I'm burning. I can't believe how oblivious I was to all this stuff before. No wonder I gained all that weight.0 -

I'm dying slowly as I type this. I'll probably die sometime in the next 70 years or so.0 -
I know...it's crazy!0

If and I do, I decide on fast food I make it fit into my calories!! Moderation is the key word!! There is no bad food!! JS0

This post inspired me! Not something I'm proud of, but I used to go to Burger King for breakfast all the time, several times a week. When I was in high school I'd go before school almost every day, and I picked up the habit again when I started working full time and would drive by tons of fast food places on my way to work. The typical meal was from Burger King and I'd go crazy
Bacon, egg & cheese croissonwhich
Calories= 310, Fat= 18
Medium Hashbrown
Calories=500, Fat =33
5 piece French Toast
Calories=380, Fat= 18
Large Iced Vanilla Coffee
Calories= 230, Fat= 10
That's 1,420 calories and 79 fat!!! That is more than what I now consume in a day! Fast food has been something I've tried to cut out of my diet but it's hard when you think about how much you used to enjoy it. But breaking down the calories in the items I used to eat is really great motivation to stay away from the fast food and keep eating healthy. I'm currently participating in a weight loss challenge and this weeks challenge is no fast food, so this was perfect motivation for the week!0 -
I haven't had a meal from any of the big fast food chains in probably 15-20 years. That's not to say I haven't had that type of food. I still eat a burger now and then (usually at work - but there are some amazing small joints here) a Friend of mine runs a British Style Pie shop -amazing stuff but if I ate there daily I'd be as big as he is - (he's about 280 i'd guess)
Anything is fine in moderation0 -

it's worth it.
You're right... I just gotta plan accordingly.0 -
This is the main reason why I gained weight before. I would eat fast food for lunch and dinner most days. Hamburger and fries..etc. So probably doing 2000 calories just on those two meals alone.
I gave up fast food for the most part now. If I do have fast food, I just choose a better option or make sure I plan for it. I usually choose Subway, a Chick fila or a salad somewhere.0 -

Chipotle in my area doesn't have sofritas (yet?) but I want to try it!
I enjoy their burrito bowl with steak! I don't buy/eat/cook beef or chicken at home because my hubby's pescetarian and it kind of grosses me out to prepare it. But I love the little chunks at Chipotle...so delicious.0 -

Where I live I have to cook my own food. Fast food is a treat since I live in a town that is maybe 2000 people and there are no fast food resturants. The good places to eat here only serve breakfast and lunch and thats if they feel like being open that day. A fast food place is a once a week treat. A sit down meal is a special occation.
I also have to deal with the heat. If it's 120 outside of the car everthing in it has to be heat proof or under dry ice to protect it. Even in coolers. Isn't Arizona such a wonderful place to live?0 -

My favorite way to become more aware of the calorie content of the foods I eat...from all sources, fast and slow...is MFP.
I would joke that everyone here already knows that, but honestly, you're probably right...there are many on this site who haven't figured that out yet...
...so valid point.0 -

You have 22 years on the girl, I would imagine that you are wiser about a few things. "Everybody knows" nothing, there is not one thing that everybody in the entire world knows. Well, possibly that we need air to live. But even then, there is probably a human being somewhere that has not been educated on that.
Also, looking at your profile words as far as "not liking people", try to imagine that some people come to a site such as this to converse, with other people, to just converse.
In real conversation it may be like "man, just went to track my calories and I cannot believe that I have been eating so many and not known, glad I do now."
While tone is not picked up well by my laptop, is "...so valid point" sarcastic?0 -

Ewwww, conversing with people??? *shudder*
In a "real conversation", I would have responded with what I did in each of my posts up there. OP and I would have enjoyed a good laugh about them, and then we'd go on about our day.
My "...valid point" was totally sincere. I was essentially saying that you would think that others on this site would know that MFP was a good way to see the calorie content of food, but that there were many here who hadn't realized that yet...I was essentially commiserating with OP.
Now, that said...
