Hi
I have a pack of penne pasta (dry) and on the label when I look at the nutritional label it says - 156 cals per - 100g cooked as directed - so is this the dry weight or cooked weight values?
Thanks

Dry. Always weigh pasta before it's cooked.0

Dry. Always weigh pasta before it's cooked.
This. I weigh everything raw/pre-cooked.0 -
I *think* it means if it's cooked the portion size is 100g @156 calories. My pasta box states that a serving is 2 oz uncooked. I googled what that would be cooked came back with 4 oz.0

If the lable says it's for cooked pasta then it's for cooked. Dry pasta has more calories per 100gr0

Thanks I have weighed it uncooked it's just I think 156 per 100g of dry weight pasta is correct so I think it's means it's 156 per 100g when cooked - it's not clear packaging at all0

Normally you would use dry weight for pasta and rice etc, but in this instance it is telling you a serving size is 100g of COOKED pasta and it's 156 cals. Normally 2oz uncooked is 200 calories, so it can't be talking about uncooked weight.0 -
Dry. Always weigh pasta before it's cooked.
Unless the label tells you otherwise. In this case, the label refers to the COOKED portion size of 100g. 100g of dry pasta is definitely not 156 calories.0 -

100g of pasta is about 3.5 ounces. There's absolutely no way that 3.5 ounces of uncooked pasta is only 156 calories. It has to be talking about cooked weight...0 -
What kind of pasta did you buy?!?!? That's crazy low for pasta. Every package I have looked at is 300-320 per 85g! I only cook 42g per serving, so around 150 calories.
ETA...uncooked weight0 -

That is going to be the cooked weight. 57 grams of dry pasta is 212 calories so 100 grams of dry pasta would be like 372 calories.0 -
It's asda's penne pasta - I have weighed out 100g dry but will weigh and bin what's over my macros0

As with any pasta, the amount of calories on the label is for cooked pasta.0

that is not the case with any pasta...It's asda's penne pasta - I have weighed out 100g dry but will weigh and bin what's over my macros
it says "cooked as directed" which means the serving weight of 100 grams is for the pasta cooked. 100 grams of dry pasta is going to be around 370 calories or so.0 -
350 grams pasta, with beef and cream sauce, bolognese.. How many calories???0

I'm new in here.. Lol0

I too get very confused by this, it stresses me out a lot, as I massively used to overeat pasta, and I'm always scared I'll do it again!
I weigh my pasta dry, in grams before I cook it, then base the calories on that. I currently eat Asda Free from Fusilli Pasta, weigh between 50-70 grams depending on meal. I get confused as the cooked weight is always more, but you have surely only added water...not calories...I just stick to dry weight..
I'm the same with rice....0
