I know a few people who have reached their goals and still in their mind the are big, they still cant believe it when they look in the mirror. Physically they look wonderful, but mentally its still a real struggle on eating, having bad days, having good days and sometimes still having days where they think they are 'fat'.
I also know a few people who have had gastric surgery and even though it has helped them loose the weight, they still constantly fight with their minds over food.
Just wondering if any of you have experienced this and how your overcame your mindset?

I wouldn't say my body is slim, I still have about 30 lbs to go...however, I will say that when I go shopping for clothes, I still find myself gravitating towards the plus size section. Last week, I bought a size 12. Down from a size 22 AND I almost talked myself out of it.
I'm a work in progress, I definately have years of poor body-image issues to work through...0 -
i'm interested to see what those who have reached their goal weight say
I've had body image issues since I was a pre-teen, and I admit I'm a little concerned about how I'll feel when I reach my goal. Will I ever be comfortable in a bathing suit? The answer to that will probably always be "no" (I hate feeling like I'm walking outside in my underwear, in fact I'd RATHER do that), but I think I'm coming to accept myself whatever weight I am. I think.
I have a photo of myself and my aunt when I was 13, 105 lbs, 5' 3" and when she originally gave it to me I couldn't stop thinking how "fat" I was. Now I see the photo and of course think I was crazy but it shows how insecure people can be at any weight.0 -
Absolutely! I struggle with this all the time. I'm a pound or two from goal, currently sitting around 132lbs and I still grab the wrong size when trying on clothes or I'm completely shocked when something small fits me. And the strangest thing that I experience is when I eat over goal I always feel like all the weight just came back overnight. How odd is that?? I swear I'm going to look down and see a big belly. :noway:
I'm actually nervous about truly acknowledging that I finally look good because then I'll become complacent about my eating and will gain back the weight like always. So maybe still seeing heavy me is not such a bad thing.0 -
Personally I think this is an issue that transcends simple changes in weight. I can't speak from that perspective specifically, but I can definitely relate to not always being able to mentally grasp physical changes. I had a particularly long "awkward phase" growing up. Harry Potter glasses, absolutely zero curves, floofy hair, super gangly looking... It was a good time  It wasn't until college that I became more comfortable in my own skin. I hear compliments regularly now, but I still am a bit bewildered as my mind goes right back to the lanky girl that people teased for being so unattractive.
What's helped me the most is to really focus on how I define myself beyond physical traits. Internships I've earned, research positions I've managed to hold, competitive jobs I've landed and excelled at. Make a list of objective, concrete accomplishments when you start getting down on yourself, and remind yourself that physically we're all just works in progress :flowerforyou:0
