My BMR is around 1200.
Is 1200 calories too low?
I'm 20, so I'm not really sedentary. I play the wii fit, Just dance. Sometimes go on the cross trainer and taking the dog for walks...but it varies because some days I just sit and do nothing like today.
Opinions please?

You really don't have a lot to lose so I think that 1200 calories is good. However, if it is too difficult, you could up a little bit.0

Your BMR is what your body burns at a resting state WHEN your digestive system is inactive.... Which means you would have to fast for 12 hours and be sleeping and your body would be burning 1200 cal in a day. Therefore just being up breathing, eating and things raises what your body burns. I would just make sure if you are eating the 1200 calories and doing any type of execise whether i be wii fit or just dance or whatever you need to log some type of exercise and eat those extra calories.0

I am 24 and I am losing about 3 pounds a week. I am right between1380-1400 net a day. I think 1200 is very low. I think you should up the calories just a bit and work out more. I work out about 3 to 4 times a week and burn between 600 and 700 calories per workout most times. That puts me at about 1.5 hours of workout each of these days. Also, if you add calories you can make better calorie choices. Don't eat empty calories for the additional 100 to 200 cals go with fruits and vegies and whole grains.0

Short answer: probably.0 -
I don't have a lot to lose yes, but I'm in my healthy range, so it's harder to lose those last extra pounds .
Well I'm famished at 1200 calories :S maybe that's a sign? but I really don't know.
I find if i wait too long between meals, I am more likely to snack =\
I used to snack lots....went through a pack of biscuits a day, lots of crisps etc..and remained at 9 stone =\0 -
If you are hungry with only 1200 calories you need to up them a little. Or make different food choices. Most fruits and veggies have lower calorie counts so you can eat more for less. Don't starve yourself!!0

Oh I found that eating fruit makes me more hungry...I know weird right because of the fibre...
I was in the library 2 weeks ago, and I brought with me, bananas, apples, pears. And it made me really hungry that I had to give in and eat something else =\!
I'm going to give 1400 calories a go for now, I don't want to risk losing too fast. I did that over the summer, and as a result, I ended up losing lots of hair.0 -
I am 5'7.5" and weigh 134 lbs. My BMI is just under 20. I am in the low end of healthy. I started off at 147 lbs which was still in the healthy range. MFP won't set you up to eat less than 1200 cals/day because that is typically the lowest a female should eat ON TOP of anything burned through exercise. So 1200 NET cals. Because I was already at a good weight MFP could not set me up to lose 2 lbs/wk because that would have meant I eat less then 1200. I was set at 1200 cal/day for a weight loss of 1.4 lbs/wk. It is definitely doable. People that lose more than 2 lbs per week typically have a lot more to lose (or exercise a whole lot without eating their exercise cals) so it comes off faster even when eating more than the 1200 we do. Try eating high protein foods maybe? Egg whites are super filling and only 17 cals per egg white. When I cannot seem to get full I will eat five of them and then I am stuffed. Good luck!0

I would do that egg white thing, but I have been brought up to not waste food.
So any food that is put in front of me, whether I like it or not (aka cauliflower)...i eat it. So only eating egg whites isn't practical for me, i'd probably get a yelling unless i found something to use the egg yolk for.0 -

Well then idk. It's all about choices. Not excuses. Buckle down and make the right ones and you'll be golden. Good luck to you!!!0 -
