I would have two tiny pieces of dark chocolate should I feel the need or want for chocolate. I know it's still chocolate but it's so rich and intense flavour it really helps keep my cravings at bay.0

Just a thought from another perspective - I found for me it works better if I plan, instead of trying to avoid it completely. For example, most days I eat oatmeal for breakfast, but on Friday I eat a donut. I eat a 100 calorie or less popsicle after dinner each night. During the day, I let myself have one 'unhealthy' snack of chocolate or whatever at a certain time. For me this helps because I can plan it into my day, whereas if I cut it out completely I'm more likely to reach into the candy jar and 'sneak' a bunch of chocolate!0

I had the 3:00 slump issue too! And craved sweets, so what I did was make a boosting homemade trail mix with a bit of sweet added in.
I used walnuts, peanuts, some sugar free chocolate covered peanuts, some fruit strips (three flavors, chopped up, sunflower kernals and even a few sugar free gummy bears because, sometimes you just need sweet.
It has 200 calories but is a fulfilling snack for 2 oz of it per serving....much better than the 150 candy bar probably
it also has:
<20g carbs
6g of fiber
8g of protein
179g of potassium
1g of cholesteral
98g of sodium
2% DV of calcium
7% DV of Iron.
10g of fat
As someone who needed the extra energy boost, the nuis help a ton, and i am also someone who needed extra of things like fiber and iron. Make a trail mix version of your own, measure everything like i did and use the recipe builder. then be true to finding your serving size and write the macros on the container (i store mine in a container in my desk, and i have a 2oz cup next to it so that i know my serving sizes.....YAY. sometimes i even pick out the gummy bears and eat all the other stuff without them. YAY again!)0 -
I am the opposite, I find it hard to resist salty stuff! Just have your 2 fun size bars a day & fit them into your calorie budget. Something that works for me when I know when I will be around temptations is to either brush my teeth or chew gum. Good luck0

I'd rather not waste my calories on bad chocolate. Those snack chocolate bars taste like sugar and hydrogenated palm oil to me.
For the same calorie "spend", have one square of GOOD quality chocolate - Valrhona dark is my current fave.

Or, if you don't like plain chocolate, take a look at some of the better chocolate bars out there. Divine and Chocolove, for example, make all kinds of great flavors (crystallized ginger, coffee, almond, etc) and the bars are pre-scored into bite-size squares. Eat a square for ~25 cals.0 -

Are you really "craving" chocolate or is this just a habit? It sounds like you just automatically grab a candy bar when you clock in and clock out without thinking.
Maybe some behavior modification is in order.
No, it isn't a behavior thing. I actually work in a behavior modification program, helping others modify their behavior. There are many days where I clock in and out without grabbing a fun size bar. But if I don't eat enough protein in the morning I crave sweets in the afternoon when I clock out.0 -
I like the Nature Valley PB/Dark Chocolate protein granola bars. They are not super sweet but still very good!
I've tried the Quest cookie dough and brownie bars. The cookie dough was barely tolerable and the brownie tasted awful! i wouldn't waste my money on those.0 -
It would be so sad to completely give up chocolate! I do what others have mentioned- a few squares of really good, high cacao dark chocolate. Or, for a treat, I'll pop in to Teuscher and buy one or two truffles. They are like $3.50 a pop, but so delicious and rich that one really is enough. As part of a lifestyle change, I am working on learning to enjoy a little bit of something amazing rather than gorging myself on something just ok.0

I'm also a teacher, and I know how hard it can be with all those tempting treats around all the time! It helps that we're on our feet and busy all day (I average 3.5 miles on my FitBit), but I get those 4:00 cravings, too. I eat a little bit of chocolate everyday. I can't imagine giving it up! Here are some of my favorite low calorie chocolate treats...
Dole Strawberry Dippers (4 pieces = 60 calories)
Dark Chocolate Sugar Free Jello Pudding (60 calories)
Lil' Drums Chocolate Swirl Ice Cream Cone (120 calories)
Skinny Cow Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream (150 calories for the whole container)
Chocolate Chai Tea (doesn't really taste like chocolate, but 0 calories!)
Costco Chocolate Weight Loss Shake (I drink it for breakfast and it curbs my appetite until lunch - 180 calories)
Costco also sells these really delicious chocolate covered super fruits. Maybe you could pack a couple of those and have them instead of the fun size bars.0
