Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitors. Question

I got the Polar FT4 heart rate monitor for Christmas this year and really love it. When I went to use it earlier today it was giving me a problem. Instead of my heart rate being displayed I was getting 00. I made sure the chest strap was on correctly and damp. After a few tries it finally picked up my heart rate. But now I'm worried.

When I'm done using it I take it off and rinse both the transmitter and chest strap under warm water then dry them off with a towel. I usually clean the strap with some soap once a week (or depending on how sweaty I was). I'm a little scared of putting it through the washing machine so I haven't done that yet.

I was hoping you could tell me how you go about cleaning yours or any tips/advice you might have. Thanks a lot!!

They way I sweat I am sure it is waterproof. I just ordered one from runtastic today (not polar) just because it will sync and play well with my phone and MFP, I hope!

Mine sometimes does this. The most common cause is that I need to make the strap tighter because I've lost weight. It's a 'terrible' problem to have, I know.
