Home exercise routine

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if you guys can help me come up with a home exercise routine. Going to a gym is just not an option for me unfortunately. Im a 25 year old dude who has really never worked out in his life but recently shed off alot of weight. Im at the point where I need help toning my body (flattening stomach, tightening entire body) and im just simply lost where to start.

I don't have alot of equipment but I do have...

- dumbbells 5lbs all the way to 25lbs
- exercise bike
- exercise ball

I would love if I could come up with a weekly schedule that encompasses everything (cardio, lifting, core)!

Thanks for any help and suggestions in advance.

A few years ago wanted to tone up and Ellen Barrett's workouts were amazing!!!! Simple pilates, but really tightend and toned my body. And she's a great instructor, not crazy, fast, or confusing. She has many dvd's to choose from, but they all tone you up.
I just did 30 Day Shred and it was fantastic to start since I have long way to go, i will try t25 next, and if I still need toning up i'll go back to Ellen Barrett.

Btw her moves are very simple and you'll feel like you're not doing anything, BUT You will definitely feel the.burn within a few days.

    Good luck

My husband just started doing this workout:
    http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/muscle-building-11
Some of it uses pull bars and barbells, but if you don't have the equipment for something, you can always youtube how to modify any exercise to work the same muscles using the equipment you have. I have to do that with pull ups since I can't even do one even with the assist. Stonglifts is also hugely popular and I believe it's free. Also, don't forget about youtube for great workouts. FitnessBlender is probably the most popular, but there are TONS of free workouts of all lengths (I've done ones that are 1 1/2 hours!) that you can access for free. Strength, cardio, flexibility, everything. If you're looking to make you own routine and are new to it, I found a good way to make up my own using other programs as a kind of template. If you just google workout routine, they'll be plenty that you can print out and use as a guide to what you want to work each day. So if it says shoulders, youtube a shoulder routine. If you're looking for cardio, youtube a cardio routine. I found this as a great cheap way to keep things interesting and it's an easy way to get started.

Thank you! That 300 workout seems pretty crazy but I think I could steal a few exercises from it for sure.

I prefer HIIT workouts, High Intensity Interval Training, because it burns a lot of cals and you get great muscle definition from it. www.dailyhiit.com if free and FULL of workouts. You can find just about anything on youtube. I subscribe to: Fitness Blender, Nerd Fitness, PopSugar Fitness, Lions Gate befit, Sportskool (has ellen barrett vids), and charliejames1975. The only one I pay for is Sportskool plus and it's 2.99 a month. Good stuff!!

    Hi how are you?

I also workout at home and I only have dumbbells to do this. A great source is "bodybuilding.com" because you can choose workouts based on your fitness level, muscle group and equipment as well.
Also search " Strength Training with dumbbells" and you can get some great sources too :)
I love youtube and usually just look up routines for particular muscle groups, Fitness Blender is a favorite of mine

If you have a smartphone then there are plenty of apps as well, I like Fitness Buddy.

This is what I usually do:

    Back: upright rows and deadlifts

Chest: lying chest press, lying dumbbell fly, pushups

Triceps: Tricep extension ( one weight at a time), tricep kickbacks, tricep pulses, skull crushers, dips are great but they are hard on my hands

biceps: bicep curls, preacher curls, hammer curls

shoulders : lateral raise, front raise, upright row, shoulder press

abs: planks, crunches, diagonal crunches, lying leg raises, hip bridges

    legs: squats, lunges, calf raises,

I usually do 3 sets with 2-15 reps of a weight that is a challenge for me but allows great form. I used to do two muscle groups a day but I noticed that I got overwhelmed and confused so now I do one muscle group a day and really focus on that.

In terms of cardio- skipping rope, shadow boxing, p90x, yoga, zumba, dancing, HIIT, etc
I usually just youtube something I want to try that day and I follow along. Don't underestimate the value of jumping jacks, burpees and those types of drills as they really burn the calories

I hope that I didn't overwhelm you or confuse you. I think it's important to try and work each muscle group at least once a week; so just focus on doing one exercise for that muscle group for that day and build on more.

I prefer working out at home because I can weight train while watching tv and I don't have to wait for any machines to free up

get a hat and a pack of cards. Stand about 3 metres (10 ft) away and throw each card at the hat. If you get it in the hat you do the amount on the card of push ups, if you miss you do double the amount of sit ups. This is great fun with a friend, I used to do this all the time when I worked in a prison, we would often do it with the guys there it was a great motivational tool as neither person would want to miss.

Use your dumbells and exercise ball with the other stuff the guys are using this is just a fun way I've found of doing exercise sporadically.

Mat pilates is the best home exercise. All you need is a mat! And your own body, of course. (Unless you find a way to use someone else's.) Lots of videos available online, especially on YouTube. Try for 30 minutes per session, 3-4 times a week. Find an online teacher you like and stick with it!

For cardio, walking briskly outside is so cheap, it's free! I walk for at least 30 minutes about 3 times a week, sticking around 3.5 to 4.0 MPH.
