juice cleanse

I've always wanted to try a juice cleanse. Whenever I read ingredients in them it just seems so refreshing, like a good way to flush toxins out. Not for a long term thing of course, but something good after a hefty cheat day, or even a relapse..does anyone have any suggestions? something natural, not those store ordered cleanses.

Your liver and kidneys already flush any 'toxins' out they don't need help. Save yourself some money
  • Ayurvedic is all I can say. The Hindus have practiced for thousands of years and are very healthy, because they eat cleansing foods every single meal and every single day. It does not good to do a "cleanse" to just turn around and eat a huge bag of chips afterwards. I would suggest looking at ISKCON website for nutritional ideas. Although I'm not of that religion I do believe in a lot of their nutritional ways. :)

Cleanses are universally bull**** parading as a shortcut. The only thing they cleanse is money from your wallet.

If you do it, make fresh juices from fresh fruit and veg. Nothing pre-made in a bottle. Or just do a water only fast.

If your feeling physically ill after a cheat, just drink more water and do light exercise, and you'll feel better. Restricting your solid food intake, even for 3 days, can possibly make cheating/ binging worse. HOWEVER, I do suggest adding in a fruit and veg juice (I do the Mean Green from rebootwithjoe.com except spinach instead of kale) about 3 times a week. It's a good way to get in extra vitamins, especially from food you don't like. Sometimes it's just a drink, and occasionally I do it as a meal replacement, especially if I know I'm going to be out and about for awhile, errands etc. Adding in an extra boost always makes me feel better.

There is nothing wrong with a juice cleanse if it works for you and makes you feel better. Actually it gives your digestive system a rest and your body can concentrate on repairing itself, similar to fasting.

The one thing I would be careful with is the sugar content. There is also the question of juicing or blending. I regularly make myself a smoothie where I blend a cucumber juice with spinach, kale, left over veggies. So partly juiced and partly blended.

For me personally doing a smoothie day from time to time or to replace my breakfast with a green smoothie means that I consume an amount of veggies I would never eat otherwise.

I have just been ten days on vacation and keeping to my normal routine was tricky. So for the last two days and tomorrow I am on smoothies only. It makes me feel less bloated. Whether this is a cleanse or not is irrelevant to me, the tons of veggies make me feel good.

    Best of luck with it.
    Stef.
