Optimal caloric intake?

I'm sorry...I'm sure this has been posted a million times (I searched and came across info that only confused me more).
How many calories should I be eating? I'm 5'9 and currently weigh 160lbs. I'd like to weigh 145lbs. I'm starting the couch to 5K program tomorrow.
When I put in my info into the app, it came back at 1,600 calories which seems like a TON. But could that be right?
Please help! Thanks!

What did you set your weightloss rate at? 1 pound per week?0

Yes, that can be right and yes you should eat as close as possible to that number daily. I aim to be within 50 of my goal daily. I don't mind 50 over as much as I mind more than 50 under now that I am at maintenance. Enjoy ALL the food.0

With only 15 lb. to go, set your goal to .5 lb. per week, and be patient. Learn to log everything you eat & drink accurately & honestly. Weigh your food.
