Optimal caloric intake?

I'm sorry...I'm sure this has been posted a million times (I searched and came across info that only confused me more).

How many calories should I be eating? I'm 5'9 and currently weigh 160lbs. I'd like to weigh 145lbs. I'm starting the couch to 5K program tomorrow.

When I put in my info into the app, it came back at 1,600 calories which seems like a TON. But could that be right?
