So my names Chris, new to this whole thing, but after setting everything up how in the world is it only telling me to eat 1798 or something Calories a day!?!? this is so low... I used other BMR calculators and even on IIFYM website i got a calculation of around 2496calories a day. Keep in mind I don't have my Lean Body Mass calculated yet I need to get that done,

does anyone else have extremely low recommended calorie intake? Any help or suggestions would be great, Thanksss

Are you sure the 2496 cals isn't TDEE rather than BMR?

If you have Mfp set for 2 lbs a week that is knocking it down 1000 calories a day. 1 lb would be 500 off per day.

The bad new is that all the calculators are only general estimates, you will have to play with your calorie numbers to find what works best for you, which can take a long time to figure out. The good news is that losing weight takes a long time, too. So it all balances out. Eat less than you did when you were heavy, but not so low that you burn out and feel weak.

Also MFP calculates for you to eat back any exercise calories you "earn". i.e. if you burn off 500 calories running your suggested intake for the day would change to 2298.

You only have 46 lb. to go, so set your goal to 1 lb. per week. Your MFP calorie goal has your deficit built in, but it doesn't include your exercise.

So i changed it over to 1lb a week and i'm getting 2300ish, so your telling me if i burn off 500 calories, MFP is gonna be telling me to eat 2800 calories that day??? and this is correct?

Yes, that's how MFP works. But there's a huge margin of error—the calorie counts & burns are estimates, and people underestimate their food & overestimate their burns.

Weigh your food. Measure all drinks that have calories. Follow your MFP calorie goal for at least two weeks, then reevaluate. If you're not losing, then eat back half your exercise calories for a few weeks.

It will take a whole lot of trial & error to find what works for you.

It tells my husband he should be eating 1600 or something ridiculous like that...he's 5'9 and 180 pounds. I eat more than that and lose weight at 5'3! He has a FitBit, so after its all said and done, he loses weight like crazy eating about 2600...he's also HIGHLY active, though. You can always go into your goals and manually set them. It always takes some tweaking before you find what works best for your body, anyway.

Try it at 2300 for a couple of weeks and see what results you get, if any. Adjust your calories up or down as needed until you find what works for you. It took me almost 3 months to settle at my calorie goal. But now that I've found my "magic number" the weight is coming off consistently.

Yes, that's how it works! And if you do it correctly, you should burn one pound a week off. But you have to be as accurate as you can with your calorie burn when exercising and be accurate with your calorie intake.

Use a food scale and weight all of your foods before you eat them.
