Sure it's possible. That being said, it's an absolutely terrible idea...
8 months should be the absolute fastest that you attempt to lose that amount of weight.0 -

I would aim to lose 1-1.5 pounds a week. It didn't take you six months to become overweight and it won't take you six months to lose the weight.0

Hey,
So I am new to this whole weight loss thing as well. So I can only share my relatively new experience. In the last 3 weeks I have totally changed my lifestyle. I use to eat take out for every single meal. I never worked out.
I now exercise about 5 times a week. I have an elliptical and do some at home workout DVD's. I also lift weights every other day. My diet is a complete overhaul. I count calories, I don't eat any junk food anymore. I have allowed myself one cheat meal (a burger, sooo good… oh and fries!)
My weight loss has been slower than I expected. I thought because I was sooo unhealthy before, it would melt off. But I've lost about 5 pounds, and I think the real notice has been in inches. Everything fits better. And I notice a huge difference in my muscles. I went from barely being able to do 3 pushups, to 15 now. My calves have gone from flabby, to strong. And this is just 3 weeks!
So basically my advice? Research everything you can about "eating clean". Make conscious food decisions. Count your calories. And workout a ton. You will notice a huge difference in how you feel and look, and the results are pretty quick!
You shouldn't really lose more than 1-2 pounds a week (so about 8 pounds a month… or 48 pounds in 6). The goal here is to promote a whole lifestyle change, rather than a quick solution, and or t will all come back.
It's slow, but you will get there. And it's so satisfying (at least for me so far, haha) to see the little results every day!0 -

The 3rd, link... adopt-a-noob, is a thread with lots of veteran MFP's who are offering to mentor noobies. Please read the first post in the thread, and if you're interested, follow the instructions. Don't just post that you want a mentor in the thread, that's not how it works. You might want to start searching for a mentor, going backwards from page 8 of the thread, because alot of the first people offering to mentor, have gotten full-up on noobs. It's an awesome program, they are offering to work one on one with you, to get you on your way.0
