It is also a lot about shopping the sales. A lot of my cheaper snacks I can get for a dollar when they are on sale and some I can stock up on. Things like carrots or baby carrots, black olives, boiled eggs, bananas, apples or oranges (I find the cuties to be expensive but regular oranges tend to be cheaper), crackers (can add a topping like cheese or avocado or something), and popcorn. Or even slice up a cucumber (usually pretty cheap here) and dip into some variation of dressing, hummus or dip that fits your daily goal.
  • I did have baby carrots the other day....But what about the real foods. lunch and dinner?

Dry beans are very inexpensive and healthy, high protein, fiber. Canned tuna is also very good on some salad greens or a whole wheat wrap. Carrots, celery and onion are my staple vegetables which I always have on hand to bulk up a sandwich or salad, Cantaloupes are on sale this week so I plan to have that and cottage cheese for lunch at least one day.

Get packages of small chicken breasts when they go on sale and freeze them.Same for beef..I buy the packs of 4 oz sirloins when on sale to keep on hand, and the family size ground beef (low fat) that I then cut in half and freeze. You can eat what you "normally" eat, just smaller portions and log everything to make sure you are within your daily calories. I tend to buy frozen steamer bags of veggies and always have quite a few on hand so I can have a veggie with every meal. I also like to bake a few yams on the weekend and microwave a portion for lunch or dinner all week. I never buy "diet" food. I always have fresh fruit and fresh veggies on hand for snacks and to make quick salads every day. Canned low sodium black beans, canned low sodium broths. and lentils are also a staple in my pantry for quick soups.
  • thank you for the types of foods. The healthy foods are too expensive for me. Yams I like too. I'm going to have to buy fruits and the bag veggies.
  • I just did my biggest loser workout dvd and then ate my omelet with salsa in side. with my water
