What can I do to slim my thighs and butt

Hi,

I have recently gained weight (2kg) after an operation (not an excuse I know). I have gone from 60/59kg to 62kg (I'm 5'5''). I want to lose this weight and in particular slim down my thighs and butt.

What types of exercises slim down the lower body? I know you cannot spot reduce, however in the past certain exercises have caused my legs to bulk up (i.e running, lunges etc). From other people's experiences what exercises do not cause the thighs to bulk up? Does yoga or Pilates achieve this? How about walking?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Clara

You can't target weight loss. It's genetic that determine where your body decides to store fat. All you can do is lose overall body fat and it will come off eventually. There are many people who think that's not true.. they are wrong.

    Hi Clara,

I have exactly the same problem as yourself, gained weight (64kg, 5' 4") and it all goes to the thighs!
when ever I try to lose the weight it always comes off the boobs first! so unfair!!

But I have found that buying a pedometer has helped as I try to achieve 10k steps per day, and keep a note of the previous days and try to either maintain the steps or increase them.
This is just walking by the way, not even power walking just normal everyday pace. This really helped me to get rid of the stubborn fat just below my bum and gets rid of cellulite too,

Hope this is of some help to you

    Tracey.

When I do lunges and squats, my thighs slim down, along with everything else. I recommend a good overall body workout, using all muscle groups and your core in order to slim down.
