Am i going too slow?

hey guys,

I started my weight loss journey mid December and I'm still on it. I started at 75kg and now i weigh 68kg. I'm 5'2. I started with a 1500 calorie diet but switched to a 1200 calorie diet in January. I honestly expected to lose more weight than 7 kilo actually because I always get to hear that with the 1200 calorie diet you can lose up to a kilo or 2 a week. I basically eat as much fruit and vegetables I can, I make smaller portion sizes and drink lots of water plus I exercise 3 times a week at least. I just don't label any food as bad food, so if I want a cookie, I'll go eat a cookie as long as it fits in my 1200 calories a day. And I don't freak out when I go over my 1200 calories a day now and then lol. Even then its never higher than 1400 calories

Has anybody else experienced this too? And is it strange that i still don't feel any difference in my clothing?

Like the hare and the tortoise, 'slow and steady wins the race'. ie if you lose weight slowly and steadily it stays off. Are you sure you're having enough calories, tho'? If you go too low it can actually slow down weight loss.

According to the calculators at IIFYM.com your BMR is around 1480 (need your age to get the real number). Trying bumping up your calories to 1500 and exercising a bit and eating some calories back.

Also if you don't have a lot to lose (say 20lbs or less) you should expect a .5lb to 1lb loss a week. Have you been taking pictures and measurements? Use those to judge your success as well. The scale can be a liar sometimes.

You're 19 and from your picture I'd say you don't have much to lose, so it's going to come off slowly. As long as you're losing, that's all that matters. I'd also say that 1200 is too low for you but that's my opinion, it was too low for me. You might actually lose better eating a couple hundred more calories. Try the TDEE method....http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ I've had much better success and don't feel hungry like I did before. Be sure to take measurements, especially since you're exercising and try adding strength training for better body composition. Good luck to you!

I think 7 kilos in three months is a good rate!

I think you don't have to be at 1200, wouldn't it be nice to find the maximum amount you can eat and still lose weight? Also it is harder to get in all your macros and micros at 1200 and less. Do you eat enough protein? It's great to have fruit and veg, but protein is one of the most important things if you want to end up looking lean, and not just a smaller version of the same body you have now...

You only have 7kg to go (15 lb). Your expectation to lose "a kg or two (2.2–4.4 lb.) a week" is completely ridiculous. The closer you are to goal, the more slowly you lose. People w/ 100+ lb. to lose can lose 1k (2 lb.) per week—you can't.

Set your goal to the slowest rate (in pounds, it's .5 lb. per week), and be patient.
