Do Insomniacs burn more calories?

I'm just curious if someone who wasn't sleeping, but was still being active (work, grocery shopping, exercise etc) would burn more calories?
The body has to be pushing pretty hard to keep someone awake for 48 hours or even longer AND still be functional and active.
So I was just curious if anyone knows? I'm in no way recommending anyone stay up for days to shed some extra lbs. I was just wondering. :yawn:
hmm...well lets assume they're eating the same amount of food as they would on a good nights rest. Just for fun! lol :flowerforyou:

I don't think so because you eat more too I had a problem where I would be awake for 40+ hours several times a week and ended up not being able to make good food choices and just getting weird cravings. I tried really hard to fall asleep and just couldn't and ended up eating a lot0

I have heard from MANY sources that depriving yourself of sleep will cause you to eat more.....your body is looking for energy. Rest is essential to all the functions of the body and you HAVE to sleep if you want to lose weight the right way. sure, maybe you would lose a couple of pounds initially from deprivation, but it would only be a couple, and not healthy. you wouldn't be able to keep that routine and expect results that way. Your body needs rest....simple as that. and if your body doesn't get what it needs from you it will start storing calories for energy.....which is not what you want. so....that's what i have read in short. you can go to the Beachbody site for more info on that.0

I would say that a person wouldn't lose more. Sleep helps organs work at it's best and if you ain't getting no sleep, your body is all screwed up. I would even go so far as to say that someone would possibly GAIN WEIGHT as the body would be storing everything into fat thinking it's in crisis. Just my 2cents worth0

Your body repairs itself at night while you sleep. Sleep is needed for both your physical and psychological health. If this is becoming a chronic problem, go see your doctor.0

1. Behavioral: Most of the time you will eat more.
2. Activity: Lack of sleep will result in you being less active, skipping or shortening workouts, etc.
3. Hormonal: Can contribute to chronically elevated cortisol levels
Net result: insomnia in almost all cases will lead to gaining weight, not losing.
Now fidgeting is another story.0 -
I think the hormone aspect alone would keep you from losing, and may actually make more fat, you know inside fat around the organs.
Hormone's can mess your body up.0
