Body Weight Workout?

Hello,

I started using this site around a year ago, and have currently lost 18lbs. I still have two more vanity pounds I want to lose, so I'm still eating at a slight deficit (using the TDEE -x% method). However, I'm also interested in getting some muscle definition and have started adding in more strength training to my workouts. I have an event this summer and I'm meeting a lot of friends from online so I want to look my best.

I wanted to know if body weight exercises would be enough to gain definition? And if it's counterproductive to still be eating at a deficit if I'm interesting in gaining some muscle? Currently my main source of cardio is jump rope (daily), and I've been doing lunges, squats, and planks since the beginning. Should I keep that up or focus more on strength training?

Thank you!

If you want to stick with body weight exercises so long as you make it challenging and you are pushing yourself, you can add definition using only body weight work. My suggestion for body weight exercises besides those that you are doing, include:

    Push-ups
    Pull-ups
    Dips

I would keep a slight deficit as it will allow you to tone and see some definition as the body fat drops. I recommend the weight room but if body weight stuff is all you can access then if you do it consistently and really push you will see results.
  • Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to work those in as soon as I can.

You Are Your Own Gym is an entire body weight program. There's a book and an app. I have added definition, lost inches, and maintained my weight while hovering around maitenance calories. I'm on week 8 of the first 10 week cycle.

I do the beginner body weight workout from nerdfitness.
I'm pretty sure I've got some more definition from it.
