Water = constant bathroom breaks!

I have never been a good water drinker. So hitting 60oz today is a HUGE accomplishment. But man, I have never taken so many potty breaks! Can't imagine how bad it will be when I get up to 80oz!

I drink tooooons of water. Everyone at work always comments on my big water bottle that I fill up periodically throughout the day, but they don't comment on the fact that I am visiting the restroom about 5 times as often as everyone else.
  • Why are you drinking so much? The whole 7-8 glasses a day thing is basically nonsense. Water is good, but don't drown yourself ;)

Good for you for drinking more water! :drinker:

Hopefully, it will get a little better in time...at least that's what I keep telling myself. Ha, ha, ha, ha. I drink between 10 - 13 cups of water a day, and I spend a ton of time in the bathroom/restroom.

Um, I am thirsty! And I cut out pop and cutting back on wine. Got to drink something! I have one cup of coffee in the AM and everything else is water. I am about ready to crack open another 20oz bottle and will hit 80oz before the end of the day.

There is such a thing as too much water. Things to remember:

1.) Other water containing beverages CONTAIN water (lol) and do actually count for hydrating purposes

    2.) Foods contain water

3.) Drinking too much water can have the opposite effect and dehydrate you.

    4) I haven't, but you should probably research the verdict on whether thirst indicates that you are becoming dehydrated or are already dehydrated.

Sucking ice is a good alternative since you aren't guzzling down several ounces in a short period of time.

    Good luck.

When I first started drinking a lot o plain old water I had to pee like every 20 minutes lol but it's definitely gotten better =)
  • If someone has the answer for drinking water, let me know. I FORCE 5 to 6 glasses a day and I do mean force. I don't like the taste, I never liked the taste - don't care if it's hot or cold. It's just water. I never drank water and this is a major step for me so I will try sucking ice (it's still water!) Does it count if you have a little scotch or something with it...

I chug water 2 cups at a time (16oz as soon as I get up and about 30-60minutes before bed). I usually get about 12- 14 cups each day (weekends take a little bit more effort). As long as your pee is a light yellow, you're good.

I use Great Value flavor packs, but I use about 1/2 pack to a 20oz bottle, so it is diluted. TMI, my pee has never been so clear! LOL

I've found I retain more water if I gradually consume water throughout the day rather than in big chunks.

I have absolutely no idea whether this is true, but I have read somewhere at some point (cannot find it now to quote it though!) that when you first increase your fluid intake you will go to the toilet more often as your body gets rid of the excess water it was holding to survive the "drought" it believed you were in from not drinking enough fluids. Apparently, once your body rids itself of that excess water you go back to your normal toileting habits.

Having said that, the whole drinking 8 glasses of water thing has been debunked now. As long as your urine is a light yellow to clear, you are perfectly well-hydrated and don't need to force down any extra water.

I was never into the taste of water. Husband left out some dasani flavor drops one day, and it's been 2 months since I've had soda. Quitting it happened almost completely on accident. I looove flavored water- drink it all day long. I have a giant thermos I wander around the Earf with. This morning I forgot it and I've been off my game all day. The big problem, I realized, was that I was hungry. Second problem was I felt parched. Not good. I drank a ton of water in college and remember having the same issues if I didn't have my water bottle with me. Back in college I did it bc I wanted to be "natural," but nowadays I drink to feel good and normal. I still don't really like the taste of it, but the drops help a lot. You can customize it to give you a lot of flavor or just a little. Without water I get snacky, and I feel gross and dry-mouthed.

When I first started on water again I was constantly peeing but now it's just like it used to be when I was a soda feind. Light yellow, and I go as often as I used to, but I FEEL like a million bucks. As long as I don't forget my thermos. I didn't like today at all.

I too gave up on drinking half my weight in ounces per day. It was just too much. I love hiking and the only thing that satisfies thirst while hiking is water...so there I drink a lot. An interesting guest on Dr Oz suggested that instead of water, that goes right through us, we eat raw fruit and vegetables, which have water contained in fiber and this water takes a log time to go through us. "eat" your water.

The reason your going to the toilet is your body does not want the water so drink less. The way to tell if you need to drink is a little thing called thirst. 80% of most foods are water anyway. The 8 glasses of water nonsense was actually marketing for a mineral water company there is no science behind it.

You've discovered the concept of a mass balance : Mass in = Mass out + Accumulation

The more you drink, the more you have to pee, sweat or breathe out - otherwise you'll bloat up like a paddling pool

Yep you're probably drinking too much and your body is just dumping the excess. Bear in mind a lot of food contains water especially veggies so diet dependant you might be just over doing it on water.

I have been drinking over a gallon (4-5 liters, sometimes more) of just water a day, in addition to coffee/water in foods for a few years, and can say that your body does eventually get used to it ... somewhat ... I mean I still pee more than the average person but then again I take in probably 3x as much as the average person, it has to go somewhere. But I don't go every 8.6 minutes like it seemed at the beginning! I enjoy water. it's my primary thirst quencher and primary appetite suppressant. I know I *could* drink less but it's not adversely affecting me (except the increased potty breaks) so I don't worry about it.

I am onky drinking when thirsty. Sometimes if I think I am getting hungry, I try water first to see if I was actually thirsty. For ME, right now, it seems the more water I drink, the more I crave it. I know I was dehydrated before. Hopefully in a week or two, things will even out. Meanwhile, I will enjoy my new love of water and multiple bathroom breaks.....except at night! I felt like a puppy having to pee every 2 hours! LOL

You can always just use the colour of your pee as an indication. Provided you aren't taking medication that would affect it. Light to straw coloured is considered normal. Too light and you are probably drinking too many fluids.

I definitely loose more weight when I drink more water. On a Normal day I drink 4 to 5 16oz bottles, there are days that I drink more. I feel better when I'm hydrated, the only other drink I have during the day is a 16oz bottle of diet green tea.

I, too, drink a lot of water....and it is not because of the now-debunked myth about having to drink a certain amount.
I think I am "addicted" to water. I grew up drinking a lot f it, and I guess that has carried out into my adult life.

But I prefer hot water - not lukewarm or room temperature - the one where you have to sip like tea! When I go out to eat and I ask for hot water to drink...they ask, "with lemon? Just plain water? In a cup?" to which I say, "Aye...absolutely no lemon...and in a kettle, if you have one please..." :)

I have two glasses in the morning, then I carry a thermos-full, that I sip throughout the day. I feel like I am missing something, if I do not have my water bottle close. The last comes a few hours afore bed.

I guess with the many years of drinking, my loo schedule is more or less routine. I can now pick out the times when I will go....and at night, I always wake up once (I juice a lot too)...and have no problem about it.

I think it would take a lot to suffer Hyponatremia/Polydipsia, and I do not fret over it. I have constant bloodwork done as well. The most beautiful thing I have noticed over the years - my skin is always so smooth, and in a weird kind of way, I go longer at cardio, and lifting heavier (as opposed to those days I do not drink as much)....

This is just my personal experience, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Bodies, needs, opinions and experiences are different....one should do what one is comfortable with

I drink about 6 'cups' of water a day (about 3or4 pints), not including what I drink in tea (which is a lot) or the bottle I polish off in the gym.

I do this because I have noticed a definite connection between days when I drink less than 6 cups, and the scale being up the next morning with water retention. Its habit now so I don't even notice - though I do pee a good bit during the day and now am able to tell when I'm dehydrated by how often I need to pee!
