I've been playing around with this app for the last week or so on my droid and I like it, so I'm ready to put it to use. I just need some words of encouragement and a swift kick in the behind every now and then and I can offer the same in return. I'm a mom of 2 and after 2 c-sections and over 100+ pound weight gain, I just want my body back. I feel like I'm trapped in a body that's not mine and I'm dying to get out of it. So if you're a heavy weight like me, let's talk, share tips, motivate and conquer this illness we have. I have a friend whose an alcoholic and I never understood how hard it must be for him to stop drinking until now. Being overweight in my case is no different than being an alcoholic or drug addict, I'm hurting myself and teaching my children my terrible habits. So.....It is certainly time for change and hopefully I can make a few friends along the way, on the long journey that lies ahead.

Hello to all the ladies that have posted before me on this post. My name is Robin, I live in WI and have 2 children 19 and 16. I was put on bedrest with both my kids many years ago and never lost the weight, never tried that hard I guess at the time.
I have 100 pounds to lose, could use your support. I am a person who puts everyone's needs and wants before mine, my hubby David has MS so it is easy for me not to put myself first. Well, i am proud to say, I am working on that. I retired 2 years ago because he needed me home. I am an emotional eater,I am working on that too, I am excited about MFP because it will help me to eat the proper amount of calories. Good Luck!! Together we can do it!!

Hey all! I also have 100+ pounds to lose. I don't have any kids though- I'm still basically a kid myself :(

I completely agree with your outlook, Erica- for many overweight people, the challenge to live a healthier life is very similar to to the challenge of an alcoholic quitting drinking. It's hard, it's emotional, it takes time, we need a support system, and there are constant pressures and triggers that make us want to go running back to our vices.

It's hard to teach yourself to eat right and start making those healthy decisions- you can't go without food, because you'd die, so you can't just stop cold turkey. You have to honestly work at controlling yourself. It's a day by day thing, and having a good support system is really key.

Feel free to add me as a buddy, btw- I'm also new to the site, but so far the friends I've made on the site are very supportive, and it's nice to get positive reinforcement!
