Who here is worried about the holidays and all the food that comes with it? I certianlly am.
Any ideas on how to avoid such foods? I am trying hard not to be so hard on myself when I do cave in.

I just posted a blog about this very thing...You know the drag is that around the Holidays we ALL tend to eat too much of the things that are not so good for us. I always say LIFE HAPPENS and you know what, if you overindulge just try to get some extra exercise and get right back on track. Anything in moderation is how I look at it0

I'm honestly not too worried about it. I have a different outlook on it than most, though. I know that I will give in to temptations, but I let myself this time of year. It is all about moderation, and I feel that we may save ourselves some pounds by steering clear of it all, but also we will feel bad about ourselves if we don't let ourselves have and enjoy the things that others are enjoying...since it only happens one time a year. So I don't worry about it. I just know that pumpkin pie only comes once a year, and then there's 11 more weight loss months after that before it comes again. And all those 11 months of hard work is not going to be sent up the river from one pumpkin pie, some cookies, and glazed ham. :flowerforyou:0

My suggestion is that I eat before I go to anything. A couple of weeks before was my company Christmas party. They serve buffet style, and I last year I tore it up... But this year I ate right before leaving, and when I got there I just nibbled a little bit. I was not that hungry at all! It helps for me! Also, sometimes I like to eat with everyone. So I bring snacks and such and just put them in my purse. So while everyone is snacking and eating, I have my stuff too!

I feel like we largely addressed this for Thanksgiving but here's essentially what I do for any type of spluge day:
Prepare!!!!
- I schedule my long run for major holidays and make sure to schedule some type of workout for any type of social gathering. It gives me extra cals to work with and for me heavy exercise is an appetite supressant.
Prioritize
-What do I REALLY want some of? What is really a treat? For me at thanksgiving it was Blueberry pie with homemade whipped cream. So I limited things like chocolate finger foods and mashed potatos and stuffing to be sure I could have a full serving of blueberry pie. The rest of the day I made my veggies a priority and anything else I had in small servings.0 -
I gave all of my snacks away at work. Remove them from your house immediately! It works for me.0

I am having everyone here christmas eve for appetizers and opening presents. So I am doing make your own sandwiches, vegetable tray, seven layer bean dip (made low fat), spinach dip(which I will stay out of) pretzles and whatever everyone else brings, but I will just eat in moderation as for christmas dinner I will try to eat mostly turkey and vegetables let myself have a little bit of what ever else I want and try to get in some walking and get back on track the next day. I am a little worried but I think the best thing is to have a realistic plan and stick to it......0

I will not be avoiding, just monitoring. This is a lifestyle change and there will be holidays and celebrations until we leave this earth! Beating yourself up for enjoying grandma's famous red velvet cake, is no way to live and certainly not a way to loose and keep off the weight. So be merry! Then exercise the patooty off the next day (or week! :-)0

Yes if it was just my living on my own I'd have no problem having little to no temptation in the house but I live with my in laws and the family and they are terrrrrrible eaters. Like awful. They bake and cook the worst meals all the time and I know that is in large part the reason I haven't lost my baby weight as I wouldve if It were just myself and my daughter.
I always used to justify it with oh its fine they eat it too but they are super unhealthy and unfit so I don't really want to continue in that path.0
