Hello everyone,

I need some advice please...

I currently crossfit 5x per week (early morning) and do the odd short run (I'm rubbish and running in my area).

My problem is that I need to lose 50+ lbs and while I LOVE crossfit im not losing weight quick enough, I am imrpoving and I really dont want to let it go but I have thought about changing my routine to -

Monday - CF
Tuesday - Gym (cardio and weights)
Wednesday - CF
Thurdsay - Gym (cardo and class/yoga)
Friday - CF
Saturday - Rest
Sunday Alternating - CF (kettle bells/OL) or Gym (cardo and weights)

Cardio and weights = 30/45 min treadmill, elliptical, bike and weight training on specific areas.

What do you think of that idea and who else combines CF with additional workouts?

My coach recommends I keep at CF and that I need no more additional excerise but I feel like I need something more consistent for weightloss.. Thoughts?

Thanks for reading..

At what rate are you losing weight (you say 'not fast enough')?

And what are you eating, because that is the most important element of weight loss, not how much exercise you do.

the right plan would involve dieting smarter and giving your body adequate rest between workouts. In terms of weight loss, diet is way important than how many times per week you get to the gym

Well I haven't lost a lb in the last 4 weeks, before that it was .5 per week roughly.

    I eat well, I generally take around 1600-1800 cals a day, 40%C 30%P 30%F.

I understand that diet is most important what I am asking about is the workout side of things, I am very much interested in sculpting my body and I enjoy training. CF is not getting me enough cardio (imho) and I do not enjoy the runs I am currently doing.

Cut waaay back on the exercise and drop the cals to around 1,300 and you'll drop the lbs at nearly three times what you are seeing. Exercising too much freaks your body out when it comes to weight loss. Causes it to go into a very light kind of shock. So many posts like this around here. When you want to maintain or gain, you can hit the weights hard then.

Very steady and light cardio no more than 3 times a week is best for fastest pound loss.

Thanks Arguablysamso, my problem with that is the low calories.. I can't seem to stick to it without feeling hungry or weak.

Don't get me wrong I am not looking for the fastest way to lose weight but I want a good balance, I want to look and feel great.

How certain are you that you're eating the correct amount of calories? Are you weighing or eyeballing?

How many calories are you burning doing cross fit?

I weight the foods I need to but I eat fairly simple (fish, chicken, eggs, veg).

I don't know how many calories I burn as I noticed the HRM wasn't consistent with CF as it is not one continuous workout, I would guess 300-500.

The best kind of exercise is the kind you enjoy and can stick to.

Exercise is not what causes weight loss, a calorie deficit is. If you aren't losing, you aren't in a deficit so its more important to go back and make sure you are weighing and measuring all of your food and that your intake is as accurate as possible.

That is ultimately all that matters.

But if you feel you aren't enjoying the cardio you are doing at the minute, but want to keep up doing cardio (not necessary) then you can switch it up. I personally do heavy lifting 3 times a week and I run 4 times a week, but thats because I enjoy running. I don't run to increase my deficit or to lose weight, and I lift because I want to retain lean muscle while I lose weight. I used to Spin too - that's a big burner, and a great cardio workout. But I lost weight regardless, of which exercise I was doing because I was in a deficit.

So long story short - pick exercise you enjoy and do it, but don't expect a change in exercise or routine to result in more weight loss because by the looks of it and your daily burns, you won't burn any more calories than you already are by switching it up.

when it comes to consistently losing weight, diet is the only side of things. fix your diet, not your exercise plan
