Sweet and Salty cravings

I am addicted to sweet and salty foods.. Not together necessarily, but one right after the other. A nutritionist I saw said the intense cravings might be due to my whacked out adrenal glands. Anyone have any ideas or tips that helped them get through their cravings?

I have the same problem! I actually found that if I take a whole wheat piece of bread, and dunk it in a bit of balsamic vineger, it satisfies all my cravings and I think it is delicious!

Eating a dill pickle should help with the sugar craving, not sure about salty.

I have a square or two of 70% dark chocolate when I'm craving something sweet.

If your cravings are intense and you have other symptoms ie: problems sleeping, sensitivity to hot and cold etc you should see a dr. about it. My sister has just been diagnosed with Addisons disease which is an adrenal gland disfunction and she used to eat tons of sour candy which was due to a craving she couldn't resist. After being diagnosed her sour candy cravings made more sense.

Thats not to say that everybody does not crave certain foods. I LOVE sweet and salty together (french fries and milk shakes! mmm lol) but if it is intense it is worth checking into.

It is also possible for someone to throw their thyroid out of whack due to an extremely caloric deficient diet.

I would go ask to have some labs done just to check up on thryoid etc.

Hello, On a light note, they can just be cravings. Just see a doctor because they have necessary tests that they can produce to make sure you are okay. Too much sodium intake is not good, as with many women, sweets are defiantly hard to shake off. If it isnt an adrenal problem, your nutritionist need to make a food plan for u that can satisfy your cravings the right way.

I have a hard time with this. My Dr said I need to treat sugar like a addiction and treat it like former addict treats his addiction. Remove temptation and don't start. One drink is to much for a person in AA, so one bite is to much for a sugar addict like me.

When I haven't had alot of sugar for a while I don't crave it, if I am in a middle of a sugar binge, I crave all the time.
