What home workout would be helpful in lessening arthritic pain? Equipment at home are dumbbells up to 15 lbs, and elliptical/bike (2 in one). Does not need to lose weight, in fact probably a bit underweight. My husband is 53 years old, 5'10", 140 lbs, works in manufacturing (welder), non athlete. He has pain in arms, shoulder and back. Workout right now is just stretching (approx. 1 hour).
I am looking at workouts for me (to lose weight and tone) and I thought I would look for something that would benefit him. Does not have to be the same workout. I was thinking about something with weights but not starting with anything too extreme and also do not want to put him into more pain.
I admit that I do not know much about fitness workouts, but I am thinking that he needs to strengthen his muscles to get rid of the pain. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Please note that we are not runners.
Thanks

I'd recommend having him talk to his doctor about it. You definitely don't want to get him doing the wrong kind of workout and risk worsening his pain. This isn't the sort of thing random non medical professionals online should give you advice about...0

I heard that yoga is a great exercise for those who are dealing with arthritis. You may want to check out that option. I believe there are articles online about the benefits. Good luck to both of y'all.0

What type of arthritis does he have? What type of drugs does he take to control the symptoms?0

No drugs perscribed. He just says minor arthirtis. Feels it more when the weather changes and it is damp.0

Well, with that amount of information it's hard to know what to do. I am assuming it is osteo arthritis of some sort so the main things that will help him out are going to be high rep, low weight exercises and a lot of stretches to bring some fresh blood into the area. But it really depends if his arthritis is due to inflammatory causes, degenerative causes or autoimmune causes.0

fitnessblender.com has a LOT of different video of all levels to chose from.0

I think he has mentioned asteo and degenerative. I am pretty sure he said his back was degenerative disc.0
