    Maybe he's being chivalrous and leaving you his to practice with because it's heavier? I use a heavier sword in training than in sparring, and it makes me faster.

    I use a sabre rather than a sword and use a heavier and lighter sabre depending on what I want to accomplish. If I am learning or perfecting moves I use the lighter one, if I am training for the real thing I use the heavier one.

    Man....I should have gotten my sword instructor license when I was like 18. I could have gotten away with accidentally beheading a couple of ex girlfriends!
