Mortified...need advice

Okay so I had a very horrible day yesterday. Went to a work meeting and someone (we'll call her Mrs X) pulled me aside and asked "are you having a little baby"?
The answer is NO - NO I'm F****** NOT!!!!
I'm 33, 5'4, 138 lbs, so I'm withing a healthy BMI, but would be more comfortable being around 128lbs (for my build).
Now I do have a little one who is 18 months, and I am actually lighter and smaller than before I got pregnant, however, I am not in as good shape. I do have a wobbly tummy, but I really don't think in clothes I look THAT bad (and others around me who have had to deal with my crying and whinging after Mrs X's comment agree - although maybe they are just being kind?!)
I have a summer holiday booked so need to sort myself out in readiness for the bikini wearing.
I'm pretty okay with food and diet, my issue I think is exercise. I have a gym at home, and at the moment I am managing C25K (3x per week currently mid week 4), and trying to do one other session where I mix cardi and weights. I will struggle to fit much more exercise in so guess I need to re-focus on what I can do in 4x 30-45 min sessions a week.
What do you suggest?

If you have, or can invest in, a barbell and plates I would recommend that. I'm doing Stronglifts 5x5 which is fab, I know other people recommend NROLFW (thinks that's the right order of letters) which is another good lifting programme with great advice.0 -

I had this years ago I was a size 8!!!! turns out my boss couldn't have children and was almost like out looking for pregnant women to avoid maybe its something like that or maybe your hair and skin look amazing like that pregnancy glow id go with that!!!0

The comments of that colleague were completely out of line. A personal comment like that is unacceptable. It clearly upset you so her line manager should be made aware.
In terms of what to do now, eating at or just below maintenance while strength training will help you get the bikini body you want. Ideally you should follow a progressive programme in which you are regularly adding weight and/or reps. Stronglifts 5x5 is a good beginner programme if you have access to the equipment or a gym.0 -
What's the obsession with bikinis? One pieces can be slimming. I'm rocking one. You couldn't pay me to wear a bikini.

breakfast : waffle(1) and an egg
lunch : rice and mixed vegetables
snack :apple, and banana with greek yoghurt.

She sounds like a busybody. Some outfits with a higher waistlines makes one look like you're in the early stages of pregnancy. Maybe it was something like that. Who knows...Don't let her comment bother you. She might have said it purposely to get under your skin. I have the kind of personality that I would have said something sarcastic to her. :laugh:0

Also, for anyone who doesn't get it: first rule of etiquette is NEVER to ask someone if they are pregnant. EVER. If they want to talk about it, they will bring it up. Don't ask. Don't ask even if you are SURE they are pregnant. Don't ask unless they are giving birth right in front of you (and even then, probably don't ask). People really need to learn to MYOB.0 -

Definitely start lifting weights as heavy as you can but warm up with a lower weight, then do 3-5 sets of 8-12 at the heaviest weight you can do for 8 (then build up form there). If you don't have a barbell/plates you can get a good workout with dumbbells and an exercise ball. You want to do lifts that use your core so:
deadlift
overhead press
Squat with weight (many variations online)
Lunge w/weight (many variations online)
Glute bridges
chest press w/ stability ball
chest flys w/stability ball
bent over rows
side bends
jackknife on ball (good luck, LOL)
- all can be looked up online
ETA - Cardio is great for endurance and strong heart - lift weight to tighten your body up - Good luck!!0 -

This. And also, Mrs. X is probably way more embarased than you. I'm sure she feels like a total @ss and deserves to.
Wearing the right clothes may be an issue for you also (or maybe not). Personally, I am short waisted, which means I carry weight around in the middle cause there is just nowhere for it to go...this can easily result in the look of being in the early stages of pregnacy. In short, I can totally relate. But what I wear makes a huge difference. My weight does too, but no matter what weight clothes are my either best friend or worst enemy and if I don't dress right can ALWAYS make me look a little prego.0 -
Weight loss happens in the kitchen. Any exercise is great for fitness but go us on your food intake to lose weight0

I don't know what equipment you have access to or what your budget is, but ChaLEAN Extreme is also a good at home program and the workouts are about 35 min each. A couple of the non-lifting days are 45 min. It comes with a resistance band, but you'll really need some dumbbells.
If equipment and budget are issues, you can do a lot of strength training using your own bodyweight. Just google - bodyweight exercises, or 'you are your own gym'.0 -
Just wanted to mention, if you have fibroids, your stomach will look pregnant. It wouldn't matter how thin I got, I would still look that way because of huge fibroids. And I wouldn't give 2 poops if someone asked me if I was.0

Heavy weights, coupled with HIIT basically, along with getting plenty of protein, and possible looking into intermittent fasting.
Those are what initially helped me get my bodyfat% down, although IF is personal choice and is said by many to not have any impact on fat loss. It did for me.0 -

Agreed. Someone asked me if I was pregnant last summer and I was mortified and it made me feel really bad about my looks, too (the person who asked me that was clearly horrified at her mistake as well, thank goodness).
I'm just here because I have a similar issue of extra fat on my stomach (though I'm hoping it will come off by the time I'm at my goal weight). I am thankful for the other people in this thread who had good suggestions of non-barbell weight workouts-- I'm going to be trying some of them.0
