Put on weight loss regime

Hi guys, my mother decided that we use an appetite suppressant to "detoxify our bodies" and basically go under the 1,200 calorie minimum for two weeks so the body goes into starvation mode and burns off all my fat.

I'm really worried about this. I used to go a little over my requirements in terms of calories but now I don't want to eat anything. I even struggle to eat a Ryvita with jam on it. Is this wrong, or is it truly helpful?

This is all sorts of wrong.
How old are you, and why is your mother dictating your "weight loss regime"??

Worst idea I've heard all week.
20 yr-old male should eat at least 1800 every day, IMHO

In starvation mode your body will hold onto every calorie you eat... you could end up gaining more weight and doing harm to your body.

It's best to talk to your doctor about this though and I wouldn't do it all.
  • This is what I feared. I live under her roof unfortunately so either I move out or secretly order takeaways under her nose. I tried to tell her this but she's saying it's "all nonsense".

Males should never eat that low, you should be eating a minimum of 1800 calories a day, probably more. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

ETA: And then show it to your mom

You really should get a doctor involved and they could refer you to a dietician or nutritionist at least. It might be good for her to hear from someone else.

The pills are a waste of money and your body will do the exact opposite of what she believes.

LOL I didn't think I would see a stupider comment than OP's topic but MFP never fails to disappoint. But for real if you enjoy being a moma's boy have fun starving for two weeks if not do your own research understand your caloric needs and take it from there.
  • Thanks guys - I've told her firmly that the loss regime will not work. I am off it now but I think she'll continue to damage herself :(
