Hey guys, I am 21 year old female...today I weigh myself, and almost broke down :( my weight came to 121.2 kg(267.2 lb)
I know the basics of eating better, etc. I am not new to all this. What I am looking for are some ideas how you guys/girls do it? How you keep going? And also WHAT do you eat? :)

    Hey Merpka,

Even I checked my weight yesterday and I have gone into a depressed state. I am so upset that I gained 10 pounds in just the last 2 months, I have been just eating on the couch watching movies and crying all day. I am almost 40 pounds overweight and need serious help. This is a vicious circle.

Sorry, I know I am not helping you with your motivation right now. Just expressing myself and letting you know there is someone out there feeling just like you at the moment (actually since about 10 years now).

Maybe we both can find someone to motivate us here? Or we can atleast talk to each other?

I started at 299 in July and am down to 230. My diary is open. The main thing for me is not being on a diet. If I want to eat something, either I fit it in my daily goal, or I understand that my deficiet will just be smaller for the week. But I don't fret over going over my calories. every so often. Sometimes I just need to eat closer to my maintenance. As long as I know what that is and stay under for the week, I think I'm doing ok. So what if my weight loss takes more time than others? I like food. A lot. So I eat food

Congratulations on the success! That's a great attitude. Somehow I need to reach that optimism level! I absolutely love food, but I emotional eat. I need to lose 40 pounds and don't know where to start. Actually don't know if I am even ready to start.

The only person who can motivate you is yourself. If you want it enough bad enough, you'll make it happen. As far eating there are a ton of things you can eat. I eat salads, chicken, fish, fruits, sweet potato fries, jimmy johns, subway, granola bars, brown rice, smoothies, I fit in my candy, etc.

You can do it. I was 117kg at my heaviest, and it takes TIME. Make the decision to change your life, take it step by step and day by day.

My 2c on the question is that you should try to build into your system the time you spend burning up calories. At first it is not easy but with perseverance it will become part of your DNA. It took about 3 months for this process to weave its way into my system. This last week I strained a shin muscle and was unable to walk at the pace and distance I have become accustomed to and I must admit I suffered. That is good. I still clocked a few km with a couple of panadols and olfen jel rubbed into my leg.

Another tip is that you need to appreciate that food contains more calories than you think. I'm not the measuring type (wrong but that's who I am -- I'll state the +ve of this later) so everything is based on my internal calibration mechanism :-). I live in an olive oil region and for us we use extra virgin olive oil left right and centre. The product is out of this world but 1 tablespoon of the product is 112 calories. When you have this product in 5lt cans it is very easy to over use it without realising the calorie buildup in the resulting food. Measure and weight if need be.

Going back to the me acting as my own scales, the positive thing about this is that if you get it right (can everybody get it right?) you will start underestimating measurements meaning that 3 tablespoons would actually be 2.5 tablespoons. Given that I have consistently lost weight week after week for the past 4 months I think this is working.

Another tip is to mix products yet count the more calorific one. I like mixing cereals. My 30g bowl is made up of two types yet I enter the calories of the cereal that has more calories. It's a good form of cheating and has worked for me.

I hope these tips help you and encourage you.

Find something that works for you, and that you find sustainable for a long time. If something isn't working, don't give up, just adjust what you are doing and see if that works - don't have an all or nothing approach to it - and take it as slowly as you need to.

To answer your question, what I do - I make sure I eat enough so that I have energy and don't feel over-hungry but still lose weight (this is 1500-2000cals for me), and I eat mainly whole foods. But everyone is different, find what works for you so you can stick to it.

Buy a food scale and measure and weigh your foods, do this consistently and you will soon figure out what foods to eat in smaller portions. You don't have to restrict all the foods you like just figure out what a proper portion size is and consistently eat at a deficit. Eat enough to meet your daily calorie goal and eat back some of your exercise calories. Don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day, just keep going and the weight loss will come. Figure out what sort of exercise you like to do and incorporate it into your lifestyle. Be patient - this isn't an overnight process, it all takes time. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

small steps. no one wakes up and starts being a gym rat.

start walking every day. and i mean an extra walk, for exercise. not to get somewhere.

i find that working out in the morning is the surest way to get it done. if you put it off until the afternoon or evening or when you "feel like it," you'll never feel like it.

if you stop calling it "oversleeping" and start calling it "underliving" you'll stop doing it as often.

sorry, made a bit of an assumption off your "i am ridiculously lazy" comment, and added my latest motivational mantra.

however you are, by your own admission, lazy. stop that. find a way to end the day and be proud of yourself.

I try everyday to battle the laziness...even right now, instead of going somewhere with bf, I would much rather lay on a couch and watch my fav shows.
