Does anyone incorporate another plan with MFP?

And how do you do it? (e.g., MFP with low carb, counting calories but don't count veggies, etc) How does it work for you?

  • I use this site to track my workouts and my weight. I don't use the calorie counter (it's a pain in the rear to put everything in). I just eat healthy, and I lose weight. No junk, mostly lean meats, fruits, and veggies.

I log everything food exercise etc. by keeping count of calories and exercise im making progress
  • I have a personal trainer who also does meal planning. I don't know what program he uses but he plugs in everything I should eat and it adds up all the nutritional values, then he printed it out for me. The percentages he'd give me were different from what MFP recommended so I would just go in here and change the goals to what he recommended. It's very time consuming to find all the right foods in the database and now that I have a good idea of how to eat right I make my own choices and plug them in.

i use Shape.com for tracking body fat/lean body mass and FitDay.com for intensive nutrtional analysis of the foods i eat to check on how i'm doing.
  • I've been following ketogenic low carb since October 2009 using DailyPlate, but moved over to MFP because I like the community and the ability to customize my daily goals without paying a silly subscription fee.
  • I do Atkins. I enter all of my foods, and keep an eye on the daily Nutrients Summary values of Carbs, Fibre, and Sugar so I can calculate the net carbs for myself. If I'm using a product that has sugar alcohols, I either make note to subtract it out for myself, or I create a new My Foods entry that reflects the actual net carbs - especially if it's something I have on a regular basis.

Since I started in April Ive been simply tracking my calories, fat, sodium, etc.. and staying within my goals that MFP sets for me, I haven't really used any special diet program except the P90x nutrition plan the last couple months. I also log my exercise calories and tried to keep a deficit in calories everyday. I've lost around 77-78 lbs which has put me under my goal weight. Although the intensity of the P90x Workouts has made a huge difference I did lose 31lbs simply using MFP and walking as much as I could.
