-

Not sure though because I want Abs too0 -
How about an elliptical? Academy Sports has one for $99. Its small, but good for a beginner. You can also get one on amazon.com for a similar price.0
-
Do you have a decent HRM?0
-
Rowing machine...the full-body workout. :-)0
-
Whats HRM?0

GET THE HEART RATE MONITOR!!!! BEST. INVESTMENT. EVER!!!! I love my garmin forerunner 402 cx (it was 300 but garmin has great ones for your price range too)0
-
how about a bike or resistance bands, free weights0
-
Well actually if you don't know how to use any equipment, get yourself some workout dvds. I recommend anything from beachbody. They work great. I know, I used P90X.0

Gonna agree with the free weights / kettle bells posts. For that much you could even get a smaller power blocks set. From personal experience I've found if I keep up a good intensity with any form of free weight training, and watch my diet, I lose body WAY faster than any amount of cardio you could honestly do in a day, AND you tone up at the same time =D
Plus there's tons and tons of AWESOME youtube videos demonstrating all sorts of routines with these sorts of things, so you would really never have to do the same work out, if you bore easily0 -
insanity and a skipping rope0
-
on the subject of HRMs... BODY BUGG!0
-
Gym membership with training sessions...that way you learn proper form. If you have any money left over...free weights, resistance bands, jump rope, and a dvd or two.0
-
I agree with the elliptical or exercise bike!! I LOVE my elliptical and I'm planning on getting a bike soon. :happy:0

absolutely best investment ever would be a Heart rate monitor.
Next I'd say get a treadmill (check used sites you can sometimes get wicked deals!!)0 -
adjustable KB. pull up bar and resistance bands.0

Don't get an exercise bike.. How hard can you work when you sitting on your butt reading a book... Bugs my boyfriend and I when we see this at the gym. If anything get a spin bike and a spin dvd..that work your a** I would check out beachbody.com to see what workout dvd's you can buy.. Try Chalean extreme or slim in six or p90x! Good luck!! oh and if you do decided to get a piece of equipment check craigs list.. I got a pre owned elliptical for 1500

How about joining a gym temporarily, trying the machines, then getting your favorite on craigs list?0 -
a GOOD heart rate monitor and some free weights with any leftover money0

I would go with a workout DVD set from Beachbody. If you are new to working out, try Slim in 6. If you like to shake it and want to kick butt, Turbo Jam is the way to go. You get multiple workouts you can do anywhere, anytime. A gym membership expires and any peice of equipment you get for under $200 is probably going to be a little on the cheesey side.0

1st choice: go to a good gym for a while. Besides the machines be sure to try several classes (including spinning). Then you'll have a better idea
2nd choice (for staying at home): HRM, resistance bands, a few handweights and a few videos (from craigslist). I got a nice Polar HRM from ebay for $110 (half of normal) and its been flawless.0 -

I also got a Polar HRM half price on ebay! Love it! I didn't know I would.
I've seen some like new exercise machines that sell for $500 to double that or more for way cheap on craigs list. I think the key is to look them up and see what they are like. People get tired of work out machines, or join a gym and dump machines.0
