Old-Fashioned Baked Custard

4 Eggs
1/3 cup (scant) Maple Syrup
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon Salt
2 1/2 cups milk, heated until very hot
Nutmeg for garnish

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter 6 custard cups or a medium baking dish. In a large bowl, beat the eggs slightly, add maple syrup, vanilla and salt; beat to mix. Blend in hot milk. Pour into buttered baking cups or dish and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Place the baking cups/dish into a larger baking dish/pan and pour hot water into that pan up to the level of the custard.

Bake 25 to 35 minutes until set around the edges, but still slightly loose in the center. Cooking time depends on the size of the baking dish. When center only jiggles a little when shaken, remove from oven and from the hot water. Cool to set.
