Why Can't I Workout Persistently?

I have a job that has varying shifts and on different days of the week, so I can't take a certain exercise class at my gym that's 10 mins away from home. At times, when I get home, I feel too tired/lazy to workout, but when I'm motivated, I know I can do it
I really want to target working out 5 days a week. When I'm into that "gotta lose weight" mode after slacking off enough, I go to the gym to run on the treadmill. If I'm too lazy to go to the gym, I pull up some of my favorite YouTube workout videos. After a week or 2 of doing this, I reach a 'dead point' so to speak, where I'm still watching my diet, but I'm just not working out :frown:
Some of the things that get in my way are sweating during exercise (I know it's a normal phenomenon but it just bugs me), and the thought of how tired I get after working out ; I literally tend to feel sleepy unlike some of you who might feel refreshed after a workout (I wish!) I have no medical problems related to that, it's just the way my body is.
How can I stay motivated? Any ideas, tips or tricks would be much appreciated! I want to get back on track and continue my journey steadily. Thank you!

Try to get your workouts done before you go to work and let your brain and body get drained. It is much more difficult for a lot of people to keep up with a routine when they have no energy.0

It is all about setting reasonable and consistent goals.
I would highly recommend starting off small, say going two times a week, which should be more than manageable. Once you do it for long enough, you will see that you can go more often and even like it *gasp*!0 -
Thank you Sinisterly, I know it might be hard on days when I need to be at work at 9.45am, but on later shifts I think I can do it.0

Thanks, I know it helps; in fact, I've taken unfair advantage of starting out small too when I was capable of doing more! :bigsmile:0

You can do it. I am the same way. Last summer I worked out for two months straight, lost a good amount of weight and then just gave it up. I don't know why, I just hit that dead point to. Ugh. But, now I have found my "happy place". I change things up, and try not to push myself too hard, because I think that is what drove me away from it last time. And if you are feeling tired after your workout it may have to do with what you are eating beforehand. Try eating complex carbs with protein. I know on my low carb days I struggle to get through a 30 minute workout and then feel like death afterwards. But, when I eat before working out (no more fasted cardio for me) I feel energized and wonderful after a workout. I even enjoy the sweat now. I think it's hot haha!0

Erinelissa91 I know, it's such a guilty feeling, wanting to workout but not doing it either. That's a good point about adjusting the diet before workout. Generally I've heard that you shouldn't workout moments after eating a meal, but maybe it would be fine working out an hour after eating. That's why I have a habit of working out on an empty stomach. And that's a good way of looking at sweating too, hahaha. Thanks for the advice!0

I think you mean consistently, not persistently.0 -
Because you have to sleep some time.0
