How does one know when they are at their goal weight?
As in how do you know if you lose too much?

use a BMI calculator and use that at as gauge of what goal you want to shoot for weight wise... theres a range so shoot for in the middle0

Calculating your BMI is definitely helpful. You can calculate it by using the BMi calculator in the tools. Usually most of us strive to fall somewhere in the "normal" catagory. After that, it's when you feel comfortable with yourself and your body. If you find yourself going to the low end of healthy or into underweight, then you've lost too much. But other than that, it's when you feel satisfied with your weight loss.0

Hi peeps I agree whenever you feel comfortable in yourself.0

I'm actually going to go out on a limb and say something a little different here: it is possible to never truly be satisfied and want to keep losing. The best thing you can do is go and see a health care professional and openly discuss your weight with them and come up with a weight range together for your goal (most people fluctuate a little up and down). It's way too easy to take it too far if you are not careful and a health professional can give you an outside perspective and help you with reasonable goals that are specific to your needs.0

BMI is bogus. I go by body fat %. When the body fat % is in the healthy range, the scale doesn't matter.0

Agree with Training With Tony, but think it's super important b/c of your history that you get your body fat % professionally tested and set your goal from there...good luck!0

i agree with Tonya on the technical aspect of whats healthy BMI vs body fat however for most starting out fitness pals BMI is an easy thing to track yourself and gives you a simple target to aim at for starters.
Personally I'm aiming for the top end of the BMI healthy scale as my first goal and when I've reached it I'll lash out on a physical or take advantage of one of the healthly lifestyle programs at work and set another goal based on body fat.0 -
After reading your profile and getting a little more background, I think a mid range BMI in the healthy range would be best for you. It's extra important to make sure you're getting the proper nutritional levels, so eat at least 1200 net calories a day (1200 calories + however many you burn from exercise), even if it slows weight loss. And make sure to get advice from a medical professional who can help you lose weight in a healthy manner.0

I have no idea for myself, however I can already tell you that the BMI calculator says I should be between 94.7 - 128.0 lbs and that's just not going to happen. When I was at my fittest, I was between 130 and 140 lbs and everyone told me how I great I looked. If I was any thinner than that, I'd be anorexic-looking. I understand knowing that the limits are, but I don't think they work for everyone. I have a medium to large frame but I'm short. I'm just going to lose weight until I'm happy with how I look and feel.0
