Hi All,
I've had a cold for nearly a week now and feel really weak and yuk! I've got a wheezy chest, a light head and feel like I could sleep for a week! Was in bed for 6pm last night which is NOT like me.
Although I did drag myself to the gym on both Saturday and Sunday I just walked on the treadmill and did 5k each day, thought it was better than nothing. Thing is I want to eat and eat and eat and don't seem able to stop! Please will someone tell me this will pass when the colds gone else I'm gonna be as big as a house! I started work at 5am and cannot wait until 1pm so I can go and lie down!

Don''t work out if you're sick below the neck (fever, chest infection, vomiting/diarrhoea, etc) - exercise puts a strain on the immune system, it's a small strain and your body can usually take it, but if you're sick then your immune system is effectively fighting on two fronts, you need to rest so your body can direct all its resources into fighting the infection.
if you're feeling really hungry, maybe you're not eating enough. Being more prone to infection and taking longer to get over them can be the result of eating too little. Your long term progress won't be sabotaged by eating at maintenance rather than a deficit when you're sick. If you're getting sick more often than usual, review whether your calorie goal is appropriate or 100-200 more cals a day might be better. If it's just this one time then just eat at maintenance until you feel better.
I'm sick too so sending lots of sympathy your way.... I'm not working out and am eating what I feel like eating, with a focus on getting vitamins, minerals and omega 3s for my immune system.0 -
I've always heard the saying "feed a cold, starve a fever" don't know how true it is. Sounds like your body is telling you to rest though. Being sick can really drain you. Listen to your body and rest. A few days off will not ruin your long term success. Take care of yourself : )0

Thanks both, I am definitely going with the 'feed a cold' saying, my god I can't stop! I dont often get ill at all so sod it I'm eating what i want til I'm fully better! I tend to lie on the couch going mad that I'm not working out cos normally I'm full of beans all day every day!! Today Ive had porridge with a yoghurt and banana and don't feel like I've eaten anything! Noooooo0
