water retention

Hi everyone,

I usually stay within my calories of 1350 a day plus I burn 200 - 400 kcal a day 6 days a week, I walk everywhere; yet I don't loose weight very frequently and when I exercise even if I'm boiling, I don't sweat!

Do you think I have water retention? And how can I stop it/get rid of the retained water?

Tara x

Are you drinking enough water? Drinking water will help with the water retention,

First thing is to make sure it is indeed water retention. I agree that you are not eating enough to offset 6 days of workouts. If you are tracking which I highly recommend, make sure you set the activity level and weight loss goal correctly. Also, try eating back some of your exercise calories. You have to fuel your body correctly in order for it to burn calories and fat properly.

First thing to work out is if you're logging everything accurately. The MFP database has many inaccurate entries, so it is possible you're using the wrong ones. Also, you may be mistaken in your portions. The most accurate way to get portion size is to use a food scale to weigh the food, then logging it in grams.

    Hope that helps.

I put my height, start weight, how many days I exercise for how long, and how much I want to loose by when and it worked out how much I should be in taking. And I don't get hungry in between meals on that intake and exercise.. and whatever I have I work out exactly how much of it I have etc

Do you use a HRM or some type of device to accurately measure your calorie burns for your workouts?? MFP over estimates quite often.

I don't but the machines tell me the calories and so I just put in that I did less time if mfp says I burnt more. With the kids and the wedding coming up I can't afford a proper hrm :/

Usually both MFP and machines over estimate calorie burns. I had a bike that would tell me I burned 600 to 800 calories in 30 minutes. Once I got a fitness tracker I learned that was WAY off. Really, at about 194 I could steadily burn 10 calories a minute, 11 if I put my all into it and now at 137 I can get 8 or 9 a minute. Had I eaten all my exercise calories back, my weight loss would have been very slow if at all. I suggest, if you are eating back your exercise calories, to only eat half and when you can afford it, buy a HRM. You can get a polar FT4 for around $60 off of amazon. I use Bodymedia but I wanted something that wouldn't just give me an accurate calorie burn for my workouts but also a accurate TDEE. A fitness device has been a huge help for me when figuring out my calorie intake.
