My best guy friend is losing 5-9 pounds a week on Ideal Protein, which is pretty much a very low carb diet (about 30 mg a day (grams?). anyway, when i see his weight loss per week, i think that is like impossible, too good to be true. he does not seem to be having any health issues from it, he just cant eat fruit and dairy and he takes vitamins and sees the doctor once per week to check in. I am happy for him, but I think this is too good to be true, what is up with that? is there something down the road that will happen that is not happening now? He doesn't seem to be starving. I think he might be doing some exercise like running, but not like every day at the gym. Maybe once or twice a week he runs.

WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?

I personally dont want to do that becuase I dont want to give up fruit and dairy but it is tempting.

Well what's his starting weight? If he already weighs a lot, the weight will come off really fast in the beginning. If not, it could just be water weight. How long has he been on this diet?

It all depends on his starting weight.

People with a lot to lose, lose it fast at first.

I suspect if he is getting weekly checks by his doctor he is obese...and it's a guy so they have a tendancy to lose faster than women.

How long has he been losing at that rate? It's very common to loose a lot of water weight in the beginning of a low carb diet in addition to muscle glycogen.
  • if your doing things responsible it will be ok like right now i am doing the military diet. if done properly and you seek help from medical professionals you can

he started at 297 and lost 60 pounds, I think over 3 months time. He is 50 yrs old. he works in sales, so is on his feet practicaly all day.

thats like 20 pounds a month.

i just cant believe that is normal and safe.

On his first few weeks he was losing 9 pounds, 10 pounds, 6 pounds, 2 weeks ago he lost only 2, now he lost another 5, then another 5.9 pounds, sheesh!!!

Back when I was in high school my dad was around that weight, and went on south beach. He lost almost 50 pounds in two months. He was in his 40s at the time, and he has a desk job. So it doesn't seem that out of place to be honest.

Ex-Friend???? thats too bad. I was wondering if he kept it off. SMH illegal substances are not the way to go!!!!! I would love to lose weight that fast but will never be able to give up fruit or dairy.

yes very sad but necessary to break that off for many reasons. I really don't think giving up food groups is good because fruit has things in it that I think I need. and plus it gives a good flavor so that your not eating just vegetables all day you know? :)

I think if someone has to take illegal substances to keep the weight off, that's no way to live. that means what you are doing is like not for real if you have to have that.
