YAYOG & Body By You Pull Ups

Need a little feedback and assistance please! I bought the book Body By You, and am almost done reading it to begin the program. So far my concern is with the pull ups.

There is only 1 door in my apartment (the bathroom door) and we had to request it be installed before we moved in. Don't ask, it's a very weird layout. So I'm not sure if it is a standard size door or if its custom, but the door frame is about a half inch away from the ceiling. There is no way I'll be able to use one of those doorway pull up bars and I don't know what else I can do.

I have been looking online all day and found a couple of videos where someone used resistance bands to simulate the motion of a pull up.

Is there anyone here who can give me feedback on whether this will work or not? They wedged the band behind the door above the top hinge and then knelt down so they could use the motion of a pull up. I can get a band set with increasing resistance.

I'm just not sure what else would possibly work...

Thanks!

I have a jfit bar and it can be placed anywhere in the door frame itself. It is adjustable and doesn't need hardware to mount it, so you could put it up for your workout and remove after so you can close the bathroom door. I am not sure about your resistance band idea.

How does it mount in the door frame without hardware?

I have a mental picture of something similar to a spring loaded shower curtain rod and me falling right on my *kitten*!

if you've never done a pull up, it will be quite awhile before you can perform one good rep.

so the bad option is a good idea, its a very similair exercise but doesn't require as much strenght.

if its true that the regular one does not fit your door, i'd get what the poster above recommended and start with bands over the bar, then graduate to using a chair to help you do pull ups, then finally pull ups

not sure how it would stay up, either you might have to hang an attachment permenantly or maybe there is something you can turn with a wrench that spreads the ends out. second option sounds much less stable.

Thanks a lot! I'm not expecting to be anywhere near able to do a pull up. I was just stumped as to how I can even get to that if I don't have anything to help me work toward it.

I'm doing p90x3 and they advise pull ups with bands as an alternative. I use the bodylastics bands which have a door attachment included in the kit.
