Stop losing weight

Ok, so I did not join MFP until after I had dropped about 40lbs, so I thought I would continue losing my weight using it. Well, since I joined back in August, I have only lost 8 lbs!! I was using help at first when losing weight with my doctors help, and I know that jumped my metabolism, but since I stopped using phentermine, and have been on my own, I can barely lose. I have tried, not eating my 1200 calories, uping my excercise, and changing things up, with no success. I was told that my thyriod is in the low/normal range, and that it may have some effect on me, but I am usually really good on my calories. No extra sodium, lots of water everyday, and some snack foods, that are the best, but not everyday and always in moderation. I say if you can't indulge every once and awhile, then you will binge, and make it ten times worse. I am down a total of almost 50 lbs now, but these last 10 lbs have been torture! Now, to top it off, I am pregnant again, and have not been able to work out. I am excited for a baby, and I have not gained any pounds, even though i have not been working out, I am on my 11th week, but still feel there has to be a reason I am not losing. I have been told that I do not have to gain that much for this pregnacy, and that I can maintain my 1200 calorie intake. Any suggetions please!!!

I am told that I can continue to lose weight, I still have so much to go, that it will not hurt the baby. Also, it is not like I am not eating. I am eating healthy. My doctor keeps a eye on my calories and my intake, and she is satisfied that I am can continue to lose weight. It is not like I am really losing weight anyway.0

You should definitely not try to lose weight while pregnant. Your doctor said not to gain too much weight... not to lose weight altogether... ur baby will need the sustenance from what you are eating to grow and be healthy. As long as you don't eat junk food and eat nutrient-rich food (don't forget prenatal vitamins), you should be fine and u will be able to continue with the weight loss after... . Apparently breastfeeding will help to shrink the tummy after too. Good luck with it all and I hope you have a safe and healthy pregnancy!0

I'm no doctor but you gain a lot of water while pregnant and you are flooded with hormones which will mess up your weight loss too. Really, if you get through the 9 months with a small gain you will be doing really well and the weight will fall off quickly after the baby is born.0

You may have two special situations - pregnancy and possibly a sluggish thyroid. Many GP's will accept as low/normal a thyroid level that is really too low. Ask for a referral to a good endocrinologist - at your local medical school if there is one - and get that checked out. Don't know what pregnancy does to thyroid hormone, but it screws up all the rest, so....
Am not sure about losing weight while pregnant, even if you have significant weight to lose overall. How about asking Santa for a consultation with a nutritionist (Registered Dietitian) and get an eating plan from him/her for the next 6 - 8 months, and then once the baby is born you can go back to a more rigid calorie count. 1200 is pretty low for a healthy adult and you do not want to harm your baby. Low birth weight is a serious condition and could set your child up for lifelong problems.
Apparently breast feeding does help with losing the pregnancy weight gain, but even then you will need more calories for the baby, so it's really complicated.
And then there's that exercise thing. It would be good for the baby if you can at least continue a regular walking program. It's so darn hard in the winter unless you live in the deep South (US), but it would help with the weight loss, make you feel better, and be good for the pregnancy - a three-fer! Good luck.0 -
Thank you winw. I would like everyone to know, that I am not going to lose weight! Really, this is my 2nd pregnancy, and with my first I only gained 16 pounds. He had a healthy weight of 6lbs 15 oz. He has done really well, I breastfed and lost nothing, so I am not seeing that as a excitement to help lose weight once the baby is born. I will totally look into the endocrinologist! Thanks again!0

Im not a doctor but do you think it is wise to be "dieting" while feeding the baby inside of you? I mean isn't that kind of selfish? you shouldn't be thinking about how much weight you gain, but how much food you are giving that baby. A 1200 calorie a day for a pregnant woman is NOT healthy... I gained 60 pounds with my first daughter and lets just say I didn't care how I looked..I was pregnant and glowing and eating whatever I could to help her grow.
sorry to say but I think the least amount of your worries should be your weight loss..but how many more calories you can eat. I find it hard to believe that a DOCTOR told you its ok to lose weight while being pregnant... how sad.0 -
Ok, again.....I AM NOT LOSING WEIGHT!!!!! Does everyone understand that. I am not starving myself and the baby, I am not not eating so I can try and lose a few. I am eating perfectly healthy! Lots of healthy food. I am continuing to excercise, because it is good for me and the baby.I am taking a prenatal vitamin everyday! I am drinking lots of water! I am doing what my doctors...there are 5 of them, have all agreed are healthy for me and the baby. Again....I AM NOT LOSING WEIGHT!!! I was asking for advice on gaining respectfully. Except, instead of encouragement or ideas of how others did it, minus one person, everyone told me, to not follow my doctors advice.
I am not being SELFISH AT ALL! I am eating again just fine, my 1200 calories in my 1st trimester are just fine. There is not alot of baby there in the first place, and they do not need 2000 calories a day to do what it takes to grow during that time. I never said that. At all. My 1200 calories, is not one meal at McDonalds. It is eggs, chicken, cheese, fish, salads, bananas, yogurt! You can eat plenty when eating healthy. Not only that, but of course, if I excercise I increase my intake, since you need calories to burn calories.0
