Disgusted with weight, fast weight loss options??

Hi,

Recently I've started being really depressed at my weight. I would really like to lose weight quickly, but maintain keeping it off. I was think of juice dieting but I don't want- it to just all come back. I'm also a student on a budget.

I currently workout 4 times a week for an hour, 40 mins of caridi and the other 3 days I walk for over an hour and am on my feet most of the day at college. I am following an adapted version of the Blogilates 12 week meal plan.
Generally max of 1600 cals a day, I drink 2 litres or more of water a day
example of what I eat: Breakfast: banana, 2 boiled eggs, 25g of porriage oats, Lunch: salad composed of spinach, boiled egg or white fish, bellpepper/tomato/carrot any other vege I happen to throw in, 50g sweet potato, an apple, Dinner: tin of soup, another salad of frozen veg, 2/3 protein items, Snacks: piece of fruit, cup of soup, bowl of spinach.

I've been exercising regularly 3/4 times a week since the start of 2013. Since I've started working out I've only gained weight, I have definitely improved my overall fitness, as I used to die on workouts I now find rather easy. You can see muscle tone and I'm a lot more flexible. However I started it to lose weight not gain it dramatically! I'd always eaten healthily, 5 a day, balanced meals, I literally eat Mcdonalds/burgerking etc once a year eat out once every 2 months, but it wasn't perfect so I started this diet.

I've lost 4lbs but have stopped and am fed up! I've been on the diet for just over 6 weeks. I hate my weight it's horrible. I want to get rid of my fat I'd had for so long. The fact my weight has gone up since exercising annoys me. I know muscle weighs more then fat but since my fat is still here... I know I'm not huge but there's a significant amount of fat on my belly. I can see it, I can feel, I know it's there and I want it banished!
I started out in 2012, 8st 9lbs, that's not exercising regularly, not strictly controlling diet and I wanted to get down to 7st 5lbs. Now I just wanna get back to 8st 9lbs! I find my weight so horrible I don't want to post it now.

Any help or ideas would be welcome!

I'm sorry that you are so upset with your weight. You have been making great strides toward a healthier lifestyle, and it can be extremely frustrating to not see results. No kind of fast weight loss will be sustainable in the long run, including juicing and cleansing. Perhaps especially juicing and cleansing. Perseverance is the key!

You're doing it the right way. Double-check the accuracy of your logging. Make sure you are weighing and measuring those portions you gave. Sweat it out extra hard in your workouts. Most importantly, forget the scale. Take your measurements. Take pictures. Are your clothes getting looser? You mentioned your workouts were getting easier - THAT is progress that you should be proud of! The easier it is for you to exercise, the harder you should push yourself, and the more you can improve your fitness. Also, if you can see more muscle tone, then you ARE losing fat. Fat covers up that tone, so the more tone you see, the less fat you have.

    Hang in there!
  • Thanks for replying!

Quite of few of the people around me are going on juiceplus and have lost over a stone. I'd love to lose that, but I don't know if it'd all just come straight back on. I'm guessing the cabbage soup diet is the same as juice dieting?

I weigh almost everything and yes if you're not sweating you're not working hard!

This is what stinks. I have lost some fat on my stomach but not a lot. That is where I store my fat primarily. My thighs have actually gotten bigger! Now I've actually bore holes in my jeans from where my thighs rub together! I'd never had that before I made my healthy changes. I never stored much fat on them and I don't have much there now, but still. It's in my legs you can see muscle definition but the fact they get bigger is frustrating. I have narrow hips so I'll never have a thigh gap but I didn't expect them to get bigger!

I'm definitely happy with the fact my fittness has improved, and can now do lots of exercises I couldn't even do on beginner's version. I won't give up eating eating or exercising either. I generally enjoy this lifestyle now, but I just wish my body would respond! On the BMI scale I'm pushing going into the overweight area! :( I'm not tall either so it's not like the weight is spread out.

What are your stats? height, age etc? because 7st 5 seems very very small even being sub 5ft. I personally would advise you to see proffesional help, it seems you have a body issue with the way you look at yourself, you see yourself as being fat when in reality your are borderline underweight. Speak to a doctor first about those issues before you start asking for help to lose weight on the internet that you dont have.

It's not *much* of a help, but it's a personal anecdote about perspective.
I have an awful stomach roll... it disgusts me.
However, someone pointed out to me - in a nicer way than I'm going to say it of course - that before I lost weight, I was TOO FAT to see or even have the stomach roll. My chest/back is smaller, my thighs are smaller, my arms are more defined... and all these areas that are clearly smaller emphasise the stomach simply because I haven't lost enough fat in that area yet.

Maybe this is what's happening to you, and you can see the areas you hate the most without looking at other areas where you've lost weight.

If you want to lose the weight really fast, you're going to have a heck of a time keeping it off.

Lose it slowly=keep it off, or lose it fast=gain it back. That's how it is 99.9% of the time, so you have to choose one or the other-you can't have both.

That said, you should start strength training. Cardio is ok, but what will really give you results to be proud of is lifting heavy weights.

How tall are you? 8 stone 9 pounds is 121 pounds, right? For most women, that's either a healthy weight or bordering on underweight (depending on your height and body composition). Unless you're hovering around 5' tall, 7 stone 5 pounds is going to be very underweight for you. If you're "disgusted" with your weight, you probably have some body image problems happening and should talk with someone before you do anything that could hurt your body.

You've lost 4 pounds in 6 weeks? That's good! Cut yourself some slack- this isn't a race, it's for life. Maintaining your goal weight will be much easier if you go slowly. Not to mention you'll not drive yourself mad. ;)

What you're doing is all right. You won't lose weight fast no matter how much you want to.

When I first started out I thought I'd lose weight really quickly if I exercised enough, but that wasn't the case. The case was all in the eating and exercise was only a helper or buffer. Slow and steady wins the race.

    1)Log Accurately
    2)Weigh and Measure Everything
3)Exercise as much as you want - and strength training!
4)Walk everywhere! It really helps add in exercise calories and makes you feel better. ENDORPHINS!
5)Drink plenty of water, but don't go overboard. 1/2 your body weight in ounces is good enough. Too lazy for conversions tonight.
6)Don't stress the scale, water weight fluctuations as a woman are a ***** and they just won't go away.
7)Take measurements weekly or every ten days, that's where you'll see a difference most times.
  • 121 seems like a low weight unless you are very very short ... but based on your progress of 4 lbs in 6 weeks; at 121 lbs you don't have very much if any, weight to lose based on almost any height and therefore weight loss any quicker would likely be dangerous for your body

With your weight already low, you're losing such a significant percentage of your weight .. overweight individuals may lose pounds quicker but as far as the percentage of your body-weight is concerned; that is fast weight loss
  • Thank you for the replies. I will be very lenient on weighinf and logging. I guess I will stick to my current diet and hope I lose more soon
I wasn't clear enough about my weight. Before I started my exercising and was rather sedentary I was 8st 9lbs. Basically I went up to 10st with my exercising and then went on the diet to take it down so i'm 9st 10lbs. So painful to type that!
I accept 7st 5lbs is too small for me now. However I would like to get back to 8st 9lbs at least. I am 5ft 2, 19 years old.
I understand I am not very large but there is a significant amount of fat on my stomach I still need to lose. It sticks out and is wobbly. I hate it.

My Dr gave me a diet that he has lost 50 lbs on. Avoid all white flour, all bread, all pasta, all rice....Eat at least 50 grams of protein and 3000 mg of omega 3 (have a whey protein shake every day for breakfast. I eat meat, fish, chicken, etc., with fresh veggies. I eat sugar free jello for a snack. I am only on day 6 but I can tell that I am losing weight. I too was so depressed about my weight. I need to lose at least 40 lbs and I realize that it will take me at least 6-8 months to lose and keep it off. You can add some carbs back once you get to goal weight. I think you need to diversify your diet a bit.

"I want it now" is how you got to where you don't want to be. You need to deal with this as a long term thing, especially if you want to keep it off after you get there.

Your weight is normal for your height. So set MFP to lose .5 lbs per week, log accurately, get some exercise and be patient. Losing weight fast is just going to result in your being more unhappy with your body, since a good portion of the weight lost will be water and muscle, not fat.

It's normal for your weight to jump when you start exercise, especially if it's resistance training. It's not muscle, it's water retention for muscle repair. Are you doing any kind of resistance training? If not I'd recommend some-- that will help you lower your body fat percentage and ensure that you lost mostly fat.

I'm at a healthy weight for my height, and I still want to lose a bit of weight for "wiggle room" in my pants since the weight is starting to come from my hips and thighs finally.

I can understand why OP probably wants to lose weight. She was her happiest with her body at 121lbs and that's where she wants to be because she thinks that will make her comfortable with her body again.

For me, I was most comfortable at 125 but I'd like to get down to 120 to be on the safe side. I currently weigh 127 and am following the "slow and steady" mantra. You're always better tomorrow than you were the day before so just remember, .5lbs is better than nothing and you'll get there eventually. It's vanity weight that will take time. I'm 5'4 so I'm not too far from your height. I understand the shorter girls have more noticeable weight gain.

I wish you luck and hope you follow all the good advice to get where you want. :flowerforyou:
  • Thanks everyone I will stick to slow route.

I do 20 resistance with 40 mins carido ad I don't want to gain Any more muscle weight.

I have cut out all wheat from my diet the only complex carbs I ear are.sweet potato and oats primarily. I have some rivia on occasion.

I think if I was totally leaned out I wouldn't hate my weight so much. But it's the fact things are still here. Over a year of regular exercise and not much to show. I understand now I needed to focas more on diet.

@okami I hope getting back to my original weight will bake me comfortable again. thank you and I wsh you luck too.

You CAN lose weight really quickly. You can do a juice fast, starve yourself, whatever. But consider adjusting your perspective. You need your body, not just to look good in jeans, but to carry you through your life. Be kind to it.

You're not gaining muscle weight. At least not enough that you would notice it outside of normal fluctuations. You're likely gaining water weight, which will go away after awhile.

Cutting out wheat is fine if you think you've got an allergy or intolerance, but it won't help you lose weight (unless you just don't replace those calories with anything else, but in that case it's still calorie deficit that is working). If you do have an allergy it can reduce bloat and that's about it. If you're healthy it's not necessary.

Also, it's fine to want to lose vanity pounds. However, the way you talk about your body is worrisome. Calling yourself disgusting etc is a bad habit to get into. Have you ever talked to a counselor about your negative feelings? Try to work on more positive self-talk. There are tons of things about your body to love, I guarantee.

Sorry did I read that you were 19? I wouldn't be aiming for anything as low as 121 if I were you because believe it or not your body is still growing and developing. Yes, feel free to shift a little bit of the weight if it makes you happy but please be realistic. The fact that you use the term 'disgusted' when you are a fairly healthy weight does concern me somewhat.

Are you sure you have that much to lose to begin with? If your perception of how you look is off, then no amount of dieting will help.
  • I do not understand how I gained over a stone in water weight, surely some of it has to account to muscle weight?
I have a wheat intolerance which is why I cut out the wheat. :)

Maybe I only find my weight disgusting and stomach.. I do love some parts of me such as my hair, I also like my hands and feet. :) I haven't talked to counselors. I don't want to wallow in self pity, or have people tell me I'm fine as I am. I want to get something done about it.

Perhaps it's too small for me now. I think 125lbs would fit me fine. I stopped growing in height at age 13 yet I'm gaining more weight is scary. I understand my weight is still in the healthy range, but it's pushing it really close to overweight. I just do not think this weight fits me, it seems abnormal and out of place.

I do not know if I will get back down to 125 even if all my fat is gone. However there's defintiely a good amount left to lose.

I wouldn't use any fad diet, just measure all of your food and workout hard and the weight will come off.Too many people want a quick fix but there really isn't one.Patience and discipline
  • first 2 weeks 1lb came off past 2 weeks it's just stayed the same.

I weigh everything loose, oats, frozen veg, chickpeas, spinach, chopped veg, seeds, sweet potato etc. I also weight fish, chicken etc. I don't weigh stuff like eggs, apples, pears, as they tend have the same shape and size, I also eat them when I'm out (not eggs). Unless I buy a pack and it's really big or quite danity. I will be more strict with weighing. If I'm in a rush I eyeball it.

Yes I log everything, exculding herbal teas. I've gone over by 50 cals of couple of days. And I have a cheat day some times. I didn't have any for couple of weeks then once a week then none again. I tend to just eat more of healthy foods. Maybe I should get rid of them.

That's perfectly normal considering how little you have to lose. Just be patient. If you go a full month with no change it might be time to think about logging more accurately.

Unless you are eating at a calorie surplus.....you won't gain ANY muscle. It is really hard for women to gain muscle in the first place.

Strength training while on a diet is to preserve muscle. It "appears" as though you have more muscle because the layer of fat covering it is thinner....and because of strength training your muscles may be retaining water. This also makes you appear as though you have not lost weight.

Close to goal...........measurements are the best indicator. There will be weeks where the scale is the same....but you lost inches.
