Hello all! I just got back from an 11 day trip to Japan and South Korea. Did a lot of non stop walking while I was there but now that I'm back I haven't hit the weights in 12 days. Today would be chest and shoulders day. I left off hitting 185 lbs for 6-7 reps 4 sets. My question is for anyone who has been in a similar situation. Should I start off at the weight of 185 or should I maybe drop it 10 lbs? I won't be able to try until later on in the evening so I figured in the mean time I would see how others would approach this because this is the longest I've gone without lifting since starting. Thanks!

What I would do is:
Properly warm up on treadmill/elliptical (about 10 minutes)
Do my warm up sets ( judge how my muscles are feeling)
Start with the weights I left off doing. Judge how I feel during and after the first set.
If I feel Like I can continue, I would. If not, drop the weight.
It is all very subjective.
One thing I noticed with my body, maybe you are the same, is after about a 2 week break from lifting, I might get some soreness.
If soreness is a big thing for you, drop the weight.
But sometimes after a break ( and it's good to take them once in awhile to give your body a chance to properly recover/heal )
I find I am stronger.

I had a 12 day break during a vacation as well.
When I got back I lifted what I was scheduled to lift that day and it felt fine...actually broke a PR for squats...
But I was sore the next couple of days...(legs only)but that went away with my next session.0 -
Nice! Yeah it seems like when you take a break from something you come back better at it. Good to know I'll so some warming up and start where I left off. I'll probably be more sore but that's okay.0
