Remember when you were a kid and playing consisted of tug of war, red rover, homemade obsticle courses, and sack races? Mother May I, Hula Hoop contests, cartwheels, and wheelbarrel races; I could go on and on. I remember my mom used to do all these games right along with us. Looking back, I think this had a lot to do with her staying in such good shape...and why kids back then were thinner! :frown:

Yeah, I remember those days too. It's kind of hard for kids these days to stay in shape, let's face it pushing buttons on a game remote doesn't take a lot of effort.

These days kids are glued to the TV with their video games! Combine that with the supersized meals and increased work hours for parents (not enough time sometimes to make dinner, aka fast food time!) and no wonder we've become such a fat America!

My kids are encouraged to be outside as much as possible, then they can play video games for some down time. They don't seem to mind. They're 9 and 7 want to work out with dad and are active in town sports.

It breaks my heart! I go on field trips with my boys and I'm amazed at what parents are sending in lunches with their little ones, 16 oz bottles of Coke and Dr. Pepper (poor teachers) donuts, candy and nothing of any nutritional value.

So, so sad. . . kids don't have the energy to play anymore. . .

I never wanted to be inside! I will not parent like this if at all possible! My kids aren't going to be zombies in front of the TV. Ick.

We were ALWAYS outside too! I didn't even have barely any toys to play with (I can't even think of one toy that I had back then), I had to make a dandelion necklace or a clover bracelet...run with the chickens, geese, and dog...it was still fun though. I was on the thinner side until middle school pretty much...

Our house was on cul-de-sac, and the neighborhood was filled with kids all around the same age. We always used to play outside until our parents called us in for dinner, then we would eat really fast and meet back at the streetlight after dinner to play some more.

I can't believe how much time kids spend indoors these days. When I was visiting some cousins over Thanksgiving, their kids (ages 5-7) just sat upstairs and played video games or watched TV all day. It bums me out :(

I hated Red Rover ONLY because I never was called over. Being a chunky child and once I got a full head of steam going, I could take out nearly 6 kids if they were not bright enough to loosen their grip.

Dodge ball...I may had been chunk, but I could move quick and I had an arm. The school bully got a black eye because I hit him from 5 feet away right in the head.

Our house was at the end of the block, and we had the biggest yard, so ALL the kids came to our house. There were 6 kids in the family, and no way in hell would Mom let us stay in the house! Rain, snow, sunshine...outside we went. We were allowed inside to do our chores, homework, and put our clean clothes away during the day, at night we stayed out until 7-8pm, then it was baths, a little TV and then bed.
