Am I Measuring it Right???

I thought I have been pretty good at measuring the food that I eat. If I can't tell the servings of the food that I eat, I used to measure by cups and follow that, adding more calories just in case.
I tried this time to be MORE accurate. So I bought a small kitchen scale, that measures in grams. I know how to use it. However, I feel like measured in grams, the food I eat contains too less in calories in grams. While my measuring in cups I would consider to report more calories.
So which exactly do I follow??? I've followed the grams for 2-3 weeks now, and I think I'm gaining weight, because I do think I am eating much more than 1200 calories than I am measuring what 1200 calories truly is.
More information: I am a college student with minimal activity (walking to classes), I try my best to eat only 1200 calories. I do eat a lot of sugar within those 1200 calories, but even more cooked vegetables and a little bit of protein. I have noticed I've been cheating my food a lot, but that isn't really my problem in this post, I know I need the discipline.

Well in the last week you have been over 1200 calories on 3 days in a significant way...
and you use quick adds which are not good
and the entries you use are suspect....ie the ones that start with Generic.
You weigh solids and measure liquids for accuracy, you chose the correct entries (look for confirmations etc)

And based on your entries it doesn't look like you are weighing food all the time...1.5 chicken thighs...etc.
AS for the cheating you don't need discipline you are hungry..I couldn't survive on 1200 a day...and I work in an office...set your weight loss goals to 1-1/2lb a week and you can get more calories and still lose weight.
If you think you are gaining then look at your logging and those days you went way over and your entries...0 -

Yes, I have had an extremely bad week this week with family events going on.
So it certainly has not been accurate for the past week.
The quick adds are for the food I could not measure and I exaggerate enough
on those to make myself more guilty to eat more.
The generic may certainly be a suspect. thank you, I will definitely stop using those
However, I always try to see which logs gives the most calories for a certain type of
food, so I dont think that's much of a suspect either.
I just think that measuring in grams (compared to the 1.5 piece of chicken), weighed so less(its supposedly worth half the calories)
and those are the times that I consider the higher calorie ones, so I don't overeat.
I do not weigh food all the time, since I don't cook our food, and so I go
with measuring by pieaces/cups.
And again, when I do try to measure with grams, it ends up with much less in calories.
and I have been eating foods with nutritional information on them, which is another reason I didn't measure them in grams
Unfortunately, I eat when I'm not hungry. I certainly hope I can keep up with the idea of eating just enough to no longer feel hungry.
I have taken those days in consideration, I am comparing this from the time that I used cups and no "grams", I am pretty certain that one bowl of vegetables measured in grams should have the same calories as one bowl of vegetables in cups, not less.
