Okay, so I've been eating around 900-1200 calories a day for three days and burning anywhere from 250-500.
Is this a good way of going about this to lose weight at a pretty decent time frame?
I'm 19 and about 5'1"

It's a good method if you want the SCALE to look good.
Healthy weight loss should be about reducing body fat. When you try to lose weight too quickly you often lose a substantial amount of muscle too. This results in a flabby look (aka skinny-fat).
With about 50 pounds to lose set your weekly goal lower than 2 pounds a week and eat at least half of your exercise calories back. The reason you eat calories back is to help retain muscle mass & the reason it's (often) less than 100% is calorie burns are hard to estimate.
Between 40 - 75 lbs to lose 1.5 lb range
Between 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lb range
Between 15-25 lbs to lose 1 -.50 lb range
Less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs range0 -
