cardio/zumba question

hi there

quick couple of questions and would love some help

i have been trying zumba for a few weeks but have bad calf pain after a while - now i weigh 222lbs and wonder if its my weight and i should go easier or if it could be I am using my running shoes and they are gripping to much and causing a strain - or even maybe both?

thanks

I'm new to Zumba too going twice a week for the last 3 weeks and I'm gradually picking it up. I'm heavier than you but I've been doing aqua aerobics for a couple of years now and walk regularly so haven't noticed any muscle strain. Probably best slowing your pace until you're confident with your footing. I just wear general trainers but understand that something not too grippy makes things easier. I'd worry about slipping over though - I can be pretty accident prone!

personally when I started I was more than you, but have dropped down to about your weight. I noticed 1) cheaper shoes that aren't as grippy work better for zumba 2) do jumps and such as my body allows, pushing but not to the point of injury 3) drink plenty of water 4) stretch before and after
